Want to know how Ryval Studios got our start in sports??

It was 2019 and I was burnt out on doing corporate video and had the pipe dream of getting into sports videos. But I had no clue how to do it, or if it was even possible. That summer, I had gotten hired to make a video about a high school football player committing to play at Texas A&M and thought it turned out pretty good. Maybe a college football recruiting department might like this, I thought? Who knows, but it was worth a shot.

I spent the next several months cold emailing every college football program in the midwest region with my new video. Surely everyone would be chomping at the bit to work with me, right? Wrong. It was crickets. Except I got ONE reply, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. They needed help and we're willing to give a new guy a shot at making some videos for their recruiting department. This is the first of the 3 videos we did (as JM Films) that fall, and it was after this project I was hooked on sports and was determined to figure out how to make this my business.

So thank you, Illinois football, for being the first program that took a chance on me that sparked not only a complete rebrand but the confidence to go all-in on sports and not look back!

It was great getting to produce this year's hashtag for the Detroit Red Wings, one of the most iconic franchises in sports. They came to us with this concept titled Hockey State of Mind, wanting to tell the story and passion of Michigan hockey, mixed in with player gladiator shots to get fans hyped, all in one piece! What a challenge this was but am super proud of how it turned out! Another great piece for the books!

It was incredibly humbling to find out last week that I made the 2024 class of 40 Under 40 honorees by the St. Louis Business Journal! For those that have known me since the early days of JM Films, you know what a wild and humbling ride the last 9 years has been. I wish I could say it's all been success after success, but reality it is has been full of trials and testing, including a couple times I almost went out of business. Without God's continual faithfulness and provision, Ryval Studios would certainly would not be here, so I don't ever take any recognition for granted. God is good! 🙌🙏

This year's class of 40 Under 40 honorees represents a variety of industries, including manufacturing, health care, education and nonprofit work.
