**Incident in Murphytown: Shooter in Custody**

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
Yancey County, NC – July 24, 2024 – Update on the Shooting in the Murphytown area of Yancey County.
4 individuals have been shot.
The shooter, Lucas Murphy, age 36, is in custody.
This is an ongoing investigation, and no further comments can be made at this time.
Any additional information will be provided through the Yancey County Sheriff's Office app.
Please refer to the Sheriff's Office app, for updates and more details.

Mitchell Giving Gardens harvest table is this FRIDAY!

July 26th, 5:00 - 7:00 pm @ Riverside Park in Spruce Pine.

Everyone is welcome to get fresh food at our no-cost walk-up market. Please share with your friends and neighbors! With support from donors and Tractor Food and Farms we distribute fresh local produce to our community!

We believe access to fresh healthy food is a right not a privilege.

Congratulations to Mitchell County and the local America 250 group that received $10,000 for Educational Outreach from America 250 NC. This money will go towards a history installation at the new middle school and hopefully a history field trip!

Free produce will be available from 5 to 7 Friday in Riverside Park, Spruce Pine.

Free fresh food distribution this Friday at our gardens in Riverside Park (Spruce Pine), across from the baseball fields. Everyone is welcome, no proof of need is required. Access to fresh local food is community care. Share with your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or anyone in need.

It was ironic at our Tuesday board meeting how conversations were had about locals supporting tourism business and how we the TDA board can encourage this. Then a few hours later we see this article in the Mitchell News-Journal. Thank you MNJ for highlighting the importance of this and Ashley Neisser for your words!
