The Springfield Thunderbirds (St Louis Blues) begin their 2024-25 AHL schedule with two preseason home games @ the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield, MA.

Wednesday Oct 2 they play host to the Hartford Wolf Pack (NY Rangers) and Friday Oct 4 to the Providence Bruins (Boston). Both games are @ 7:05PM.

The first regular season game has Springfield hosting the Laval Rocket (Montreal Canadiens) Saturday Oct 12 @ 7:05 followed by a match up Sunday Oct 13 vs the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh) with a kids friendly start @ 3:05PM.

The Springfield Thunderbirds (St Louis Blues) 2023-24 season come to an end last Saturday when they fell @ home to the Hartford Wolf Pack (NY Rangers) 6-4. While the TBirds didn't get the results on the ice their fans had hoped for they supported the team in record numbers. The season finale was the 14th consecutive home sellout and the 20th full house of the season, both franchise records. F/C Adam Gaudette scored 44 season goals winning the Willie Marshall Award for the AHL's top goal scorer and was named to the AHL First All Star Team. 2024 NCAA Men's Division 1 Hockey Championship First Round in Springfield, MA @ the MassMutual Center.

On Thursday March 28 #4 seeded UMASS takes on #1 Denver @ 2PM EDT (ESPN2). #3 Cornell faces off against #2 Maine @ 5:30PM EDT (ESPNews).

AIC Men's Hockey will faceoff against RIT Saturday @ 7:05 in Rochester for the Atlantic Hockey Association Championship. 5th seed AIC defeated both Air Force and Holy Cross 2 games to 1 to advance. 1st seed RIT swept both Robert Morris and Niagara 2 games to none.

The winner of the one game AHA Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division 1 Men's Hockey Championship Tournament.

Earlier in the week RIT's Tommy Scafone was named the AHA's Goaltender of the Year and AIC's Brian Kramer was selected as the AHA's Best Defenseman. RIT's Wayne Wilson won AHA Coach of the Year honors.

The teams met twice during the regular season with AIC winning the the first game 3-2 in OT and RIT taking the second 5-2.

Will it become a statement game?

Wearing themed uniforms on Ice-O-Topes Night the Springfield Thunderbirds, AHL affiliate of the St Lous Blues, defeated the Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals) 6-3 @ a sold out MassMutual Center last Saturday night. The Bears are the defending AHL Calder Cup Champions and have by far the best record in the AHL this season.

Hershey scored first before Springfield responded with 4 unanswered goals. A Hershey short handed goal late in the 2nd sent the game into the 3rd period with Springfield leading 4-2. Will Bitten's breakaway goal about 1/2 way thru the 3rd gave the TBirds what seem an insurmountable 5-2 lead but the Bears answered quickly 2 minutes later making it 5-3. The strong Bears offense kept the pressure on outshooting Springfield 18-5 in the 3rd but Malcolm Subban made numerous fine saves to hold them at bay and Dylan Coghlans's laser from deep in Springfield's zone split Hershey's empty net with 49 seconds left to seal the victory.

It was also a big day for Springfield alumni in the NHL. On nationally televised games Joel Hofer made 33 saves and Jake Neighbors had 2 goals as the St. Louis Blues beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1. In Boston, Charlie Lindgren earned the shutout as the Washington Capitals blanked the Bruins 3-0. The Lindgren/Hofer goalie tandem helped lead Springfield to the Calder Cup Championship Finals two seasons ago.

Springfield is on the road facing the Charlotte Checkers (Florida Panthers) this Saturday and Sunday. They return home Fri Feb 23 hosting the Hartford Wolf Pack (New York Rangers) and Saturday the 24th hosting the Providence Bruins (Boston). They are back on the road Sunday the 25th vs the Bridgeport Islanders (New York). All 5 games are AHL Atlantic Division contests and will have a big impact on the tight Division standings.

Mykonos Restaurant held it's Grand Re-Opening ceremony Thursday January 5.

Now located on the 1st floor of the TD Bank Building in downtown Springfield, 1441 Main St, Mykonos first opened @ the Springfield Plaza over 40 years ago and was recently a fixture @ the Food Court in the Eastfield Mall.

The restaurant is open Mon-Fr from 10:30-5 and does catering.
