Jacob Sommers carries on the Ozarks’ tradition of rustic furniture making, letting the natural shape of wood guide his designs. The forests, lakes and rolling hills of his home is what influences his work the most these days, but it was his grandparents’ custom furniture store, Bears to Chairs, that sparked his interest when he was younger. 🪵 “I enjoy really making a connection with someone and really making them a piece they will enjoy,” Sommers says.

One young furniture maker takes on a craft with deep roots in the Ozarks and learns the trade along the way from rustic furniture makers before him.

Nighthawk Gallery & Studio is a welcoming space where everyone can experience and enjoy local art. Founded by Cathleen Denise Bailey, this gallery brings together the work of talented regional artists while also serving as Bailey’s personal pottery studio. 🎨

Before opening Nighthawk Gallery, Bailey honed her craft at The Clay Cup—a cozy spot blending coffee and creativity. ☕ She started as an intern under owner Jeff Jones, spending her days assisting in the studio and teaching classes in exchange for studio access. That experience helped shape the artist and gallery owner she is today.

Almost six years after she got her start at The Clay Cup, a retail space opened up on the Neosho Square and Bailey knew the time was right.
