The start of September marks the start of meteorological fall. While the first week or two of September can be quite toasty in the Ozarks, this year is a very different story! The first 1.5 weeks of September will be below average and fall-like. The chance for rain is very low over the next seven days. Models are starting to hint at warmer than normal conditions by the end of the month.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS FORECAST | Pack your rain jackets & some patience
An approaching cold front will bring rain and some pockets of thunder and lightning later this afternoon and into the evening. This could make for a soggy start to High School football games. Lightning will be possible, so pack some patience to deal with any game delays.
Summer has returned with a vengeance. Temperatures will be in the mid-90's this afternoon, with a heat index closer to 100-105. We can expect hot and muggy conditions through Thursday. Meteorological fall begins on Sunday, and it will be feeling fall-like as we begin September!
We are in a copy and past kind of pattern this week, and I can't imagine a better master copy. Temperatures will continue to be cool and comfortable during the day, and a bit chilly overnight. If we remember back to 1 year ago today, we set a record for highest heat index, coming in at 122! I will take this year over last any day of the week.
Mold spores are still high on Tuesday, but a drier forecast should help those allergy sufferers out. Let me tell ya, we will be drying out! The chance for rain is less than 10% over the next week. This will be the perfect time to get your car washed.
Happy Monday! While it is a bit on the muggy side this Monday, we will be in for a very fall-like few days. Temperatures will be staying below average and dewpoints will be dropping into very comfortable territory.
Heavy rain fell on parts of the Ozarks last night, those east of Springfield saw a record event leading to flash flooding issues this morning. Friday will be dry, but the chance for heavy rain will return overnight.
Not often do we have a heat advisory AND flood warnings at the same tie, but today is the day. Our eastern counties have received a lot of rain, leading to ongoing flood advisories for Wednesday afternoon. More sunshine in the south and east will lead to a heat index over 100 this afternoon. The areas with the sunshine are under a heat advisory today.
Monday's temperatures will be slightly warmer than where we were over the weekend. It all depends on who sees the sun and who doesn't. For those with heavy cloud coverage, we expect temperatures to stay closer to the 80-degree mark. We will see a brief mid-week warm-up, before temperatures fall below average once again.

RAIN PLAYING TRICKS ON US | Rain chance will increase later today
Happy Thursday! If you looked at the radar early this morning, you likely had high hopes for incoming rain. That system fell apart as it moved into the Ozarks. Now, a cold front pushing through could trigger some showers and storms later today. Best chance of seeing rain will be south of Springfield, along the Missouri/Arkansas state line.
I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but it will be another HOT one today. Temperatures will be in the mid-90s and the heat index will be well over 100. A nice southerly breeze will keep the air circulating. The chance for showers and storms are minimal, as the threat looks to stay well to our north.
After a quick bout of morning rain, things will be heating up across the Ozarks. Temperatures will be in the mid-90's with a heat index over 100. This will persist through the week, starting August off on a hot note.
HEAT ADVISORY INCOMING | Temps soar for the work week
Happy Sunday! July has been a treat, with 21 days below average. We will be ending the month with a bang. Temperatures will warm into the 90's, with a heat index closer to 105 each day. A HEAT ADVISORY is in place from 1pm Monday to 7pm Thursday.
AFTERNOON UPDATE | Landspouts possible this afternoon
Showers and storms are starting to fire up with the heating of the day. There will be a brief time where landspouts could develop. Landspouts tend to be more of a scary looking cloud, than a dangerous supercell, but it's good to be mindful of the afternoon set-up. Temperatures are turning toasty as we look to next week.
HAZY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE OZARKS | Wildfire smoke leading to poor air quality
If you notice a little haze across the sky, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. Smoke from the wildfires out west is leading to poor air quality in the Ozarks.
PATIO FORECAST | Pleasant conditions for this evening
Another comfortable July day across the Ozarks, this will make any outdoor dining plans pretty nice. Scattered showers could pop-up this afternoon/evening, but it will be very hit or miss. Looks like we will be back to reality as we begin August, as temperatures will be much more average across the area.
What a treat this weather has been! The cooler weather will continue this week, staying below average. We will see the chance for pop-up showers nearly every afternoon. This will be the normal, summertime variety the Ozarks is used to and it shouldn't cause many problems.
