I absolutely love filming, editing and creating videos, but now and then it sure is nice to just go fishing and not worry about filming or gathering content and just spend some good ice time with family. My Dad, my son and I had a blast chasing flags this afternoon and catching a bunch of fish on the Predator tip ups. It was a bit windy out but that didn’t stop the fish from biting!

Well, I finally ended the journey through my worst walleye drought ever yesterday. It was a dark valley to crawl out of too, let me tell you. 😂 I have had the absolute worst start to ice season for walleyes ever this year with so many misses it’s honestly quite humbling. I’ve been doing great on every other species though, so at least I have that going for me. Hopefully this is a sign of my luck about to change!

Now and then you stumble into a gem! At least half a dozen of these tanks over 10” came up to say “hi” today. Watching those big marks come in on the FLX-38 was so stinking exhilarating! Just a basic Confetti drop with a couple spikes on my Tundra 34”LXF was the ticket today. Been trying out the ice tamer line and I’m impressed so far as well. Such a fun day!

First trip to the big lake this year! It was a chilly one with -20 windchill this morning. I stayed put in the Nanook and ground out a few fish. It wasn’t hot and heavy but not a bad first trip! As usual, my favorite Lake Superior bait, the T-Flasher was the hot bait.

I had a blast fishing in the Fish Donkey 7 species tournament…even though my tournament was bookended by pneumonia the first 4 days and the stomach flu the last 2 and I wasn’t able to put together the numbers I wanted to. I likely wouldnt have been much competition with some of the incredible bags that ended up taking the top spots, but would have been nice to be a little further up the rankings. 😂 Congrats to an incredible angler Rylan Parrot for taking first again and Uncut Angling and Alex Peric Fishing coming in just behind by just inches. Also an honorable mention to @330 Maniac who is always catching big bags and was hot on their tails. A great addition to the ice season!

Ok guys. I’m doing a split test on thumbnails for my latest YouTube video and I need your help! Basically it works like this: I upload one video with 3 thumbnails and YouTube tests all 3 thumbnails with different user groups and then sends me a report to let me know how they each perform. I want to know if you guys will choose the same thumbnail that YouTube will as the winner. I’ve been down for the count with a NASTY bug for the last 3 days so I haven’t been able to join many of the festivities but hopefully will be on the mend soon! Can’t wait to get back on the hard water.

I can’t believe I’m saying this in mid February, but I would recommend FOOT TRAVEL ONLY everywhere in Northern Wisconsin this weekend and use extreme caution even on foot. Use float suits, ice picks, buddy system and bring a throw rope. There were lakes that had less than 5” of ice on them BEFORE we got the rain and 2 more days of 50 degree temps. Lots of landings are in rough shape and anywhere there is current or springs is going to be wide open. That said, there is 100% still fishable ice, but you need to be extra vigilant because it’s the weirdest ice Ive ever seen. 5” of variance on lots of lakes. When you get down to 7” on the good spots, that leaves 2” on the bad spots. Definitely crazy! #whereiswinter #warmwinter #safeice #badice #floatsuit #icepicks
