Each Sunday 9-11pm KPBX.org 91.1FM Soundspace has been around as a program at Spokane Public Radio almost as long as the station has existed! Made sense to me.
We play MUSIC, new and old, classic and not, mixed genres, and LOTS of it, with mindfulness, compassion, and the best of taste: with a SPOT at the Top of Hour Two Highlighting New Music and/or Interviewing Musicians. I am told that at least half a dozen other willing/crazed/able music spinners have hosted this program in the past. One thing I do know is this: For nearly 21 years of that time, my d
edicated partner, Norvel Trosst, hosted and produced this show. When Norvel died on March 16, 2013, the seeds of his spirit were sown, and it was a revelation to me: Why don't I pick up Soundspace? I have Norvel's music collection, and my own. I gently pitched the idea to Verne Windham, Program Director at KPBX, and said, "If it works out, fine. If not, fine, too." So, as the months spun on and around, we've finally landed HERE. We are on earth. What do we do about it? All of this space, so many ways to turn our senses onto new soundscapes that parallel yet challenge generations, continents, belief systems. SoundSpace with Zan pushes the parameters of our space here on earth with a weekly eclectic dreamscape of old and new releases from all over the world, some spoken word, occasionally, local sounds, and a variety of musical and creative process insights via Zan's SPOT Interviews posted as podcasts at SpokanePublicRadio.org on the Soundspace sub-page. If you have landed on this page, you are in the RIGHT place, for this is where we celebrate the PURE joy of GREAT music. At Spokane Public Radio (KPBX.org 91.1FM), each Sunday from 9-11pm, Soundspace with Zan Agzigian will take you on a journey of eclectic music, both local and well-known, old and new, spoken word, soundtrack, as well as (from time to time) perspectives from musicians on the process of making music to help transcend you into your evening via SPOT interviews. All of this may even inspire you to go out and buy music from your local music shop, or go online and buy what you just heard, to liven up your life's listening pleasure and mixtapes. Oh, and to expand your horizons, and enrich your soul. Looking for the show's Playlists? If you go to the Soundspace sub-page @ SpokanePublicRadio.org, you will find the most recent and former playlists that have aired. Through the week, Zan posts a musical fact or shares brand new music videos just released!

It's an easy way to showcase your work alongside the diverse musical talent in our region and earn a few bucks, too! https://go.spokanelibrary.org/records
Melissa Ferrick One of my favorite musicians in this life....Saw her and hung out with her a few times in old Seattle days, early 90's...when she was ripping it up on stage with a band...Owl and the Thistle...with my boyfriend, David Nessen, when Seattle was not yet busting at the seams...when music was really rising and rebelling with self-formed labels because women like Melissa wanted to control and handle their own expressions in their own ways and claim them...so they could do what they wanted to do, not what they were told to do...Turned my brother, David, onto her work...He, too, became a fan...
FAST FORWARD...Temp Time here in Philly....I see advertised that she would play City Winery...We grabbed tickets, June 5th...went and saw an incredible concert...and was honored to meet her ummm 30 something years later...So much LIFE has happened...so much music...so many lessons learned and gifts received...Will be doing an interview with her for Soundspace with Zan Agzigian Fall sometime...
Thx for taking the photos, Dave....He shouted out a request and she played it, "Wreck Me." Was so special!!

Dad...US Navy, WWII...The love of Mom's life...Amazing how rich their relationship was to have endured for so long...together...Dad's ship was the USS Hamilton...South Pacific...House here rich with history...and memories...So glad that both mom and dad's remains are at rest together at Washington's Crossing National Cemetery....Sounds like full circle to me...Celebrating and reflecting this Memorial Day weekend on those brave enough to sacrifice...for the freedoms we still have...and a bit fearful for those that are hanging by a thread...NOT to be taken for granted....So hard to not respect the SACRIFICES that got us them....

Tune in Sunday night at 9 p.m. on KPBX for a very special show, Soundspace Retrospective! We will be airing the first two episodes of Soundspace with Zan Agzigian in honor of her 10th anniversary as the show's host!
At the beginning of 2014, when her longtime partner and legendary Soundspace producer Norvel Trost passed away, Zan assumed the responsibility and joy of continuing this great tradition. For the next few months, we will take a journey of remembrance and re-creation with Zan as we air classic Soundspace episodes.

Soundspace Playlists Many people ask whether they can get podcasts of my shows. Sorry, can’t. One would need to re-create my playlist, which rolls live online when the show is streaming. I also post my playlist each Monday right here on my page. Through the week, I will post a musical fact or share what I am listening to, what turns me on, a great new video a promotor just dropped in my box.
Feedback/Input/Suggestions are welcome. Message me, and I will respond within a decent amount of time. Big thanks...Peace...ZA
