Willow Springs Books Willow Springs Books is a literary press housed within the Inland Northwest Center for Writers. WSB publishes the Spokane Prize for Short Fiction.

Willow Springs Editions is a small literary press housed in Eastern Washington University’s Inland Northwest Center for Writers, in Spokane. The staff of Willow Springs Editions is comprised mostly of creative writing MFA students under the direction of poet Christopher Howell. As part of an internship for which they receive graduate credit, students gets hands-on experience in every phase of the

publishing process, from acquisitions to editing, design, promotions and marketing. Willow Springs Editions staff administers the annual Spokane Prize for Fiction competition. It also publishes each year one chapbook of poetry written in the surrealist manner.

Congratulations to Mathew Goldberg for winning the 2025 Spokane Prize for Short Fiction with his collection Night Watch! If you are interested in checking out some of his other work while you wait for Night Watch to come out, you can find his work in Bridge Volume 24, Number 1, and Boulevard Vol. 38, Nos. 3 & 4 (links to these and other stuff Mathew has done will found in our story). Our Spokane Prize for Short Fiction deadline has been EXTENDED through October 15th! Manuscripts must have a minimum of three (3) stories of fiction totaling at least 98 pages. The prize for the winning manuscript is $2,000 and publication by Willow Springs Books. More guidelines are available at the bottom of our page. We are so excited to read your submissions this year!
