I used to be a putty only guy! And then I came behind several installs that were new and made with putty, that were leaking. Now I’m a silicone guy! Don’t get me wrong, you 100% can make putty work just fine, but even a monkey can add enough silicone and not make a drain leak lol!

Those crawlspaces that are so nasty with waste water, you have to put plastic down and then lay on your ladder!
