Hold my tool bag….

EDIT: we would never turn up a water heater this hot! We were called out to this water heater, and my technician sent me this picture of how hot it was previously set at.

Can we talk about shower valves? When was it acceptable to install a valve any less than near perfectly level and centered?

It seems like I’ve been running across a lot of valves that are poorly secured, uneven and unlevel. …..and a lot of them are set at the wrong depth!

When I was an apprentice, my journeyman wouldn’t accept anything less than rock solid, level and perfectly centered. These valves I run into that are poorly installed, were installed by licensed plumbers, I don’t get it.

While I can certainly appreciate the innovation… the real problem to solve here is not the water on the counter top. Dishwasher air gaps are a type of backflow device to prevent cross-contamination from potable water to the drains.

If water is coming out of the air gap when the dishwasher is running, it’s because the drain from the air gap to the sink drain is clogged or partially clogged. The real solution to solve here is just cleaning out the drain and then the water won’t come onto the countertop.

How not to add a fixture to your ejection pump!

The 1.5 inch ABS pipe coming in from the left is the lavatory drain. Someone thought the best solution to tie into this, was to drain it into the discharge and put on a check valve.

Could you imagine the mess that this would make if that check valve failed or got stuck somehow??!

Came across this the other day…

When I see stuff like this, I think “you wouldn’t ever consider soldering something with paint on it.” Why would you think it’s OK to use propress on pipe like this.

I think it would serve owners and employees. Well if we treated everything we did as if it’s our personal brand.

Just imagine your companies logo on this work. If you treated everything you did as if you were representing your personal brand as an individual, even if you’re working for a company, forget about the company and think about your personal reputation. if you can step back and be proud of putting your name on all of your work … I guarantee you that you will learn more, and earn more respect from employer, customer, and coworkers.

He wasn’t talking about plumbers, but I think that Jesus’ words are applicable “By there fruits ye shall know them” …

I think a great indicator of ones workmanship is whethor you are proud or embarrassed to show pictures of your work.

I think it’s important for all of us to step back and ask ourselves this question “ am I proud of the work that I do?”

If we want to demand the most value for our work, then we have to provide our clients with the most value. Whether you own your own company or an employee, your work is your personal brand. Why not promote your brand, is this not how people become incredibly successful?

If you’re not happy with where you’re at in your career, my advice is get better at your craft, get so good at what you do that people notice how good it is, create demand for your services or skills. I promise you that eventually you’ll find yourself in a better place!
