Owen Valley Middle School students involved in the Young Entrepreneur Shop (YES) were excited to receive a brand new self-threading sewing machine from our friends at Teachers Warehouse in Bloomington, Indiana.

This sewing machine was won by OVMS teacher Becky Hayes in a drawing. The self-threading machine is one of the group's favorite tools and they are currently using it to make mini-cornhole bags.

Mr. Ruble has a challenge for OVMS students starting Monday, March 3.

With the help of the OVMS Student Council, Mr. Ruble is challenging OVMS to raise $300 from Monday, March 3 to Wednesday March 12.

If OVMS raises $300, Mr. Ruble will sleep in a tent on the front lawn of OVMS the evening of Thursday, March 13th.

The funds from the fundraiser will be donated to the family of 7th grader Kira Herrington. Kira has recently began treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The funds will be used to help offset expenses for the family.

Students may donate during both lunches starting Monday, March 3.

We are extending our firewood permits until May 2nd!

Firewood cutting for home use available at McCormick’s Creek State Park!

The public is invited to cut up and remove certain downed trees at McCormick’s Creek State Park for firewood.

Trees eligible for firewood have fallen as a result of natural causes or have been dropped by property staff because they have been cited as a hazard. They are along roadsides or in public areas such as campsites and picnic areas.

Permit sales and cutting will be from Dec. 9th- May 2nd, Monday through Friday.

The cost of one pickup-truck load is $10. A load is defined as an 8-foot standard pickup truck bed without any modifications.

A firewood permit must be obtained for each load at McCormick’s Creek’s Park Office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday- Friday, which is also when wood can be cut and removed.

Permits are not available on observed state holidays.

Firewood cut at McCormick’s Creek State Park is for personal use only and cannot be sold.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! In celebration of its 31st anniversary, the Owen County Community Foundation (OCCF) has announced the return of the $1 for $1 Anniversary Match Campaign, building on the incredible success of last year’s 30th anniversary event.

In 2024, nearly $200,000 was raised to support local nonprofits serving Owen County. This year, OCCF invites donors and nonprofits to make an even greater impact.

Running from Feb. 1 through Feb. 28, this match campaign offers a $1 for $1 match for donations made to Agency and Designated funds established at OCCF. These funds specifically support the work of nonprofits serving Owen County, providing them with both immediate resources and long-term sustainability.
