I had to share this as I am beyond pleased with how this door turned out. This is an old farmhouse 5 panel door that I fell in love with. I’ve had it for three years sitting in my garage collecting dust. My plan was to cut out my kiddos’ faces in vinyl and place them on each pannel. That became a bigger task than I wanted because I couldn’t get it traced enough for what I wanted. So I sat the door aside and said I’d get to it eventually. Few days ago I finally decided to change the way I wanted to do the door. I knew engraving their photos would take a bit of time but I had no idea it would turned out like it did. I sanded just the one side of the door and painted it white to give it a rustic look. I then grinded off the old paint on the door handle plate. The hinges will be ground down to remove all the paint and grime. Then, it will be hung using the hinges. So….. A little back story on why this is such a meaningful piece for me; foe those who don’t know my son Karson, who is in the second pannel (going from left to right) was in a tragic accident in 2013 at the age of 18 months. My entire life shattered that day. After so many years you try so hard to keep memories alive but it’s often hard to do, especially when you have as many kids as I do. On February 26th he will be 12 years old. So I knew I wanted to get this finished before his birthday and hang it up. It helps my husband, oldest son, and I to remember him and it also gives my younger kiddos’, who never met him, a chance to ask and learn about him. I chose to have all their photos at roughly the same age. Between 14-18months. I hope this encourages some of you to go out there and create things you never think you would Or make memories visual and come alive. I still struggle till this day even though it’s been 10 years so, making something like this helps so much. He was my inspiration for this piece and I can’t wait to hang it.
