TxDOT Amarillo Shares Some Safety Tips For The Monday Eclipse
By: Allen Fitts
A rare celestial event will come to Texas on Monday April 8, 2024.
It's being called the Great American Eclipse and while this event will be a once in a lifetime viewing event, the Texas Dept. of Transportation wants to make it safe for everyone on the roadways across the state.
Jason Britsch, the Public Information Officer for the Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo District is urging everyone to drive with your headlights on, even in daylight so other drivers can see you.
Britsch also stresses that drivers do not stop on the roadway, or shoulder to view the eclipse but rather find a designated parking area off the traveled path. Also, do not drive with your eclipse glasses on. This makes for a very dangerous situation.
It is currently estimated that Dallas alone will see an estimated 2.5 - 3 million drivers just in that area, but Texas itself will see a high impact of traffic especially in the path of totality which runs from Del Rio to Texarkana.
Here is what Mr. Britsch told us on Thursday afternoon in regards to the eclipse event:

Panhandle Telephone Communications Inc. Causing Upset Property Owners In Spearman
By: Allen Fitts
Most, if not all of Spearman is well aware that Panhandle Telephone Communications Inc ( PTCI ) is in Spearman, and installing the high speed fiber optics for our fair city, however, even what is being considered a " good deed " for Spearman, some folks are getting upset at the installation process.
KSPR Radio Spearman has been contacted in reference to some of the construction going on throughout town in which some of the workers are damaging property.
The property damage is all minor and in most cases, unwanted dirt is being left on property, along with minor damage to hurricane / cyclone fences.
KSPR Radio Spearman recently reached out to Spearman Asst. City Secretary Cheryl Salgado about corner lot properties within the city. According to Salgado, property lines extend all the way to the city curb, and 1/2 of the alleyway in back of a property. The alleyway is considered a " utility easement " although the city of Spearman does not legally own it, and the same holds true on properties which extend to the curb.
Property owners are expected, and by city code, to maintain those areas in the " easement " lines.
About 3 weeks ago, a property owner along 3rd street questioned why PTCI workers were up on their property digging up dirt and it was explained to that property owner that the " easement " is on the right of way of the city's side, and to that curb.
In the last couple of days, some property owners are now complaining of dirt being left on their side of the " easement ", and some minor fence damage has occurred.
KSPR Radio Spearman took a close eye on some fence damage that was happening along the current PTCI construction route and most of the damage is being caused by equipment being placed against fences, and workers leaning against them, but again, no major damage has been noted or seen.
We reached out to the headquarters of PTCI in Guymon Okl
