A bit long, but worth sitting and standing a repeating over and over, to learn something new about Easter:
UPS AND DOWNS OF EASTER
Jesus sat DOWN with His disciples for their last supper, to dine.
He lifted UP the bread, and blessed it, along with their wine.
He knelt DOWN to wash the disciples’ feet.
Judas stood UP to leave; plotting his deceit.
Jesus went DOWN to the garden and prayed for you and me.
Judas lifted UP a kiss for the soldiers to see.
Dropping DOWN Judas’ pocket thirty pieces of silver would seer.
Peter lifted UP a sword and cut off Malchus’ ear.
Jesus knelt DOWN, picked UP the ear, healing Malchus, to be
Only one of the soldiers who fell DOWN backwards at “I am He.”
Jesus was brought UP before Pilate, and accusers in town.
Barabbas, the robber, was set free, and sent DOWN.
A piercing crown of thorns was pushed UPon His head.
Pilate bent DOWN to wash his hands, instead.
Drape purple UP around His shoulders… their mocking demand.
His back stripped DOWN, and striped by a Cat-of-Nine-Tails.
Beaten 39 times, He stood UP to finish off Hell.
He staggered for you, knowing why His blood ran DOWN.
With shouts lifted UP they mocked Him through town.
Jesus fell DOWN carrying the cross UP Calvary’s Hill.
Simon knelt DOWN to help, knowing his Lord would be killed.
Soldiers lifted UP hammers to nail Jesus to the cross.
Between two thieves looking DOWN He saw weeping and loss.
UP in the sky darkness loomed at hour six.
DOWN on the earth, His blood pooled for our eternal fix.
The ninth hour Jesus lifted UP a prayer to forgive men.
He said, “It is finished.” He went DOWN to defeat sin.
Jesus gave UP His Spirit and set Paradise free.
He broke DOWN the barrier, and took Death’s key.
Meanwhile, a soldier lifted UP a sword to His body’s side.
Joseph took DOWN marred flesh where two worlds collide.
Nicodemus lifted UP oil to anoint Him in the tomb.
While Jesus defeated Death, DOWN in Hell’s womb.
UP in Heaven Jesus ransomed our souls.
His blood ran DOWN the Mercy Seat to deliver us whole.
Death was defeated! UP He arose.
DOWN in the tomb, there was only his clothes.
“He is not here. He is risen UP as He said.
Written DOWN in the Lamb’s Book are all who are led.
Jesus joined UP with his friends, ate, and talked of above.
He would soon send DOWN power as gentle as a dove.
Rising UP high, as they knelt DOWN, he disappeared in a cloud.
Angels said, “He’ll return. Look UP. The sound will be loud.”
Fifty days later, one-hundred twenty sat DOWN
In the UP-per room to pray for their town.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit DOWN to fill all who prayed.
With God’s power to witness, voices lifted UP to say:
Love God. Love People. Kick DOWN evil walls.
Listen UP when you hear our mighty God’s calls.
Soon, the arch angel with shout DOWN from the sky.
We’ll be changed to rise UP. To eternity we’ll fly.
Jesus laid DOWN His life for every lost soul.
Listen UP. Obey. Don’t ever grow cold.
When you recall His story, be eager to share the UPs and DOWNS of Easter. Remember, to occupy (be a witness) until He returns. Keep looking UP
(Luke 21:28).
For the Lord Himself will come down from Heaven,
And so will we be with the Lord forever.
(1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
