If you have a friend who is struggling with drug addiction, you may feel helpless and hopeless. But you are not alone, and there are ways to help your friend get the treatment and support they need. Here are some tips on how to talk to your friend about their drug problem and encourage them to seek help:

- Make sure your friend is sober when you share your concerns. Avoid confronting them when they are high or drunk, as they may not be able to listen or understand you.
- Use "I" statements to express your feelings and avoid blaming or judging your friend. For example, you can say "I care about you and I'm worried about your health" instead of "You are ruining your life and hurting everyone around you".
- Include specific examples of their behavior that is concerning you. Let them know how these behaviors are affecting your relationship and your well-being. For example, you can say "I noticed that you missed our last three hangouts because you were using drugs" or "I feel hurt when you lie to me about where you are or what you are doing".
- Come prepared with information about local treatment options or support groups. You can use the web search results I provided to find some resources in your area. You can also offer to assist them in finding a treatment provider or program, or attend a support group together.
- Be supportive and compassionate, but also firm and realistic. Don't make excuses for your friend or enable their addiction. Don't expect them to change overnight or without professional help. Don't give up on them or lose hope, but also don't sacrifice your own health and happiness.

Remember, you can't force your friend to stop using drugs, but you can show them that you care and that help is available. If you need more advice or support, you can also reach out to a counselor, a therapist, or a helpline.

So happy to invite on the show! Madeline hosts the . Madeline had problem drinking in her family. Her dad relapsed but her mom got sober at 21. When Madeline decided to stop digging, her mom was the first person she talked to in getting help.

I could relate to Madeline as I didn’t have a traditional bottom either. But like Madeline, I just decided to stop digging.

Addiction doesn’t affect those just at the lower reaches of sobriety. It doesn’t care. It attacks anyone and everyone with a certain disposition.

Steve Harwell of Smash Mouth had it all. Hit records. Wealth. Fame.

It wasn’t enough. Sooner or later, the bottle will get you. I’m so sad he’s gone.

I heard about choosing to be happy with what you have on the I Love Being Sober Podcast with . It hit me like a ton of bricks.
💥
How can I be happy if I don’t have the job title I feel I “deserve?”
💥
How can I be happy if I don’t have the podcast ranking I see other people have? (Nevermind I don’t know if that makes them happy)
💥
What if I have the things already others would be envious about?

Don’t think I’m a saint. I’m not. I can be a crusty pr*ck.
💩
It’s why I work on my mindset and how I treat people. I used to tear down people to bring them to my level.
🤬
My self esteem was not good.
🥺
Now I recognize more talented people in whatever it is. And let them know I admire them.
🥳
Or I just listen when my ADHD tells me to wander off.
🫥
Because I found it makes me feel better. What self esteem, do esteem-able acts.

Big lesson. Go to the doctor. Take care of your health. I finally had enough and had the guts to be tested for ADHD. Took my doctor only minutes to say I have this. For so many years, I thought I was stupid. I had a colleague once say, “maybe you are not very smart.” I failed at jobs because I could not concentrate. Once I figured it out, I was amazing.

Enough is enough. And I’m sure ADHD contributed to my drinking.

Am I alone out here? What have you don’t to address this monster?

In this special crossover episode, Maz Compton from Last Drinks interviews Matt from Sober Friends Podcast about his unique and unexpected journey to sobriety.

Matt shares how he had his last drink without even realizing it, how a TV show made him confront his alcohol problem, and how he felt like his body was on fire for weeks after quitting. Matt also opens up about his family history of alcoholism, his rules for drinking, and his challenges and rewards of living sober.

Maz and Matt discuss the importance of asking yourself why you drink, how to deal with your feelings instead of numbing them, and how the universe speaks to us in whispers to guide us to our purpose. They also offer some practical advice and encouragement for anyone who is thinking of quitting drinking or struggling with sobriety. They also share how sobriety is not a magic bullet that will stop life from happening, but rather a key that will unlock your true potential and help you cope with whatever comes your way.

In addition, Maz shares her own story of how she landed her dream job at MTV, but struggled with imposter syndrome, insecurity, and social anxiety. She reveals how alcohol became her coping tool for dealing with the pressures and expectations of being in the spotlight, and how she realized that she had a me problem, not a TV problem. She also talks about how she resigned from her dream job, went through a divorce, and faced other big life challenges that tested her relationship with alcohol.

She also talks about how she discovered that she is an extroverted introvert, and how she learned to recharge her batteries in the right way without alcohol. She also shares how her job in breakfast radio gives her a sense of escapism and fun, but also can be exhausting and challenging.

Tune in to hear this inspiring and honest conversation between two sober friends who have found the keys to the kingdom.
