PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Town of South Boston offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 5th, for
Election Day.

Curbside residential refuse collection scheduled for Tuesday, November
5th, will be collected on Wednesday, November 6th. Residential refuse collection
for the remainder of the week will remain the same. Please be reminded that all
refuse must be placed at the curb before 6:00 A.M.

Persons wishing for more information should contact Public Works Department
at 575-4260.

The American Red Cross is will set up to receive blood donations on Thursday, October 24th from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Mary Bethune Community Blood Donor Center in Halifax and at this time, there are only 9 donors scheduled for the 29 appointments on Thursday.

This is an emergency situation as the blood drives that would have been set up in neighboring North Carolina have not been able to draw the gift of life since there has been so much destruction there.

“Surely donors would be able to step up to fill these open slots and support our neighbors! Times are different, times are tough, but it takes very little effort to give an hour of a day to help others,” said Ginger Weaver of the Halifax office of the American Red Cross. Weaver continued, “Have a good breakfast, stay hydrated, bring a picture ID with you on Thursday and if you haven’t donated in the past 56 days, please consider those who have been busy cleaning up after the hurricane and lend your hand right here by donating a unit of blood.”

“Donors can continue to sign up through the blood donor app, by calling 1-800-REDCROSS or online by going to www.redcrossblood.org and searching 24558, or you can call me at 434-470-7332 and I will sign you up.

Just please hear this plea and act on it. We thank those who give regularly or as often as possible, but there are many who haven’t given in some time or perhaps never. This is the time to begin! Let me check that number tomorrow and find that the majority of the available slots are now filled!” Weaver concluded.

Blood donors report feeling a sense of great satisfaction after making their blood donation. Why? Because helping others in need just feels good. Donate blood today to help those in need.
