This is a music video Images in Motion, https://www.imagesmedia.com produced in collaboration with Doug & Anne Zesiger of Stinky Tales www.stinkytales.com. If you like it, please share. We'd love to get it out there and seen!
The goal was to work with a zero budget, using what we had for puppets, sets, etc. Anne did a beautiful musical adaption of this classic lullaby. Bill William Ferguson was Director, as well as lighting and set design, Kieron Robbins was camera and editor. Doug & I puppeteered. Stinky Tales' puppets were designed by Kamela Portuges and built by Mary Nagler. Other people kindly volunteered. It was fun to see it all come together!

In Memoriam, Kamela Portuges

Kamela Portuges-Robbins (1963-2021) was a Renaissance woman; a talented puppeteer, gifted artist, and passionate teacher.

Kamela Portuges-Robbins passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Eureka on October 21, 2021, of natural causes. Words cannot express our sadness at the loss. We will miss her enthusiasm for puppetry and the arts, her “can do” attitude” and her willingness to mentor and share with others.

Always an overachiever, at 20, Kamela had earned a Master’s degree in Theater, and a second degree in Marketing. Before turning 30, Kamela received 3 regional Emmys for her work, as a designer, writer, and puppeteer.

For over 34 years, she was the director, puppeteer, and production designer at Images in Motion, where she wrote scripts, created puppets, performed and edited. She was fearless in acquiring skills as varied as welding and fabrication, building radio control mechanisms, computer modeling, and 3D printer repair.

Kamela was a Past President of SFBAPG and taught workshops on puppet construction and performance at local, regional, and national festivals. In recent years, she taught both puppetry and scriptwriting to large lecture courses of 300 students at UC Santa Cruz.

Her film credits include The Fly 2, James and the Giant Peach, Being John Malkovich, Monkeybone, BiCentennial Man, Life Aquatic, Pushing Dead, and The Sky Is Everywhere, plus PBS, TV shows, client videos and numerous commercials.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Kieron Robbins, her sister Shelly Rustand, Shelly’s husband Odd, their daughter Aubrey, her mother-in-law Sarah Robbins, sister-in-law Kemplen Robbins and her business partner, Lee Armstrong, and the many friends and co-workers that knew her. There will be a celebration of life in the future, but no date has been set yet.

Kamela considered being able to do what she loved her greatest accomplishment. She would be disappointed to leave us so soon. She had so much she still wanted to do!

Donations can be made in her memory through SFBAPG, to further the studies of Guild puppeteers. https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=6MBSK7QLK24K4

"Puppet Mayhem on Lil’ Avenue"
Most insurance commercials are a bit staid, but not “The Bold Truth” produced by ad agency Medic, https://www.wearemedic.com. Be prepared for mayhem and puppet limbs flying at https://vimeo.com/509288518.
Connections are always important in the TV industry. The Lil’ Avenue set, a spoof on Sesame Street, was provided by JetSets, who just happen to be next door neighbors of Images in Motion in Sonoma. When Media was researching puppeteers and puppet builders, like a good neighbor, JetSets recommended us.
Medic contacted Images in Motion, www.imagesmedia.com and worked with Lee Armstrong and Kamela Portuges on the puppet portion of the production. Kamela designed the colorful muppet-styled puppets with the understanding that Images in Motion would rent Medic the puppets for the shoot, then keep them for TV rentals. Nao Kobayashi deftly fabricated the two puppets. Kamela puppeteered the lead character, Pierre and Lee puppeteered Diane, the “Influencer.”
Shot in one day during Covid, all crew were Covid-tested that morning. Talent stayed in the Lil’ Avenue set area and crew was segregated behind the camera. Regardless of the restrictions, it was a fun shoot.

Images in Motion is delighted to be a part of Michelle Obama’s new Netflick’s show “Waffles and Mochi" airing on March 16. The puppets working alongside Michelle were built by our friends at Swazzle with a little support from our team. Kamela Portuges created the 3D files for "Mochi" & the waffle elements of “Waffles,” then 3D printed them. Kieron Robbins molded the 3D print for duplication, cast a number of mocha balls and a stack of waffles in pillow foam. These were flocked and shipped off to Swazzle. It was a quick project, but we’re excited to a part of this production.
