As drummers/musicians, we are no different, there is always something that we can get better at, a great drum teacher can take you to a new level in your technique (coordination, groove, hands ect), but more importantly they can make you think differently. I still do the odd "check-up" lesson with an internationally known teacher, this is not to fix technical issues at this point or to improve my coordination, this is simply a semi-annual coaching session, many times this is to just look at what I'm currently doing and get somebody else's take on my playing (and thinking!), I usually walk away with a new ideas for old material, and this is really the point for me.
Drum lessons are not just for beginners, they can open up a whole new world to you as a player, but most importantly they shave literally years off of your learning, that is time that you can never get back, and you may lose out on gigging opportunities because your not up to the level that you should be at because your EGO is in the way.
I urge every drummer to check out the best teacher in their area and take a couple of lessons even as just a check point. I myself have several drummers that are either professional (play or have played in international touring bands) as well as Music College Performance graduates that come to see me on a monthly basis or semi-monthly basis, these guys don't need to learn how to play, all of them can play their butts off, but they come in for new ideas or because they need to tweak something small and that is why these guys are successful.
My hope is that if your dream is to play music at a very high level that you take a look at drum lessons, whether with me or whoever is local to you, if its a great teacher they will take your playing to places that you did not think possible.
