This Wednesday, January 15th, The Set List will dive into the history of Kentucky Music! Our other honored guest will be ✨Wynona Shannon Padgett, Regional Cancer Control Specialist for the 10 county Lake Cumberland district. Wynona is affectionately known as "The Queen of the Somerset Scene" and runs the popular regional music and events page Nona's News & Views. We are thoroughly excited for her to talk about the music scene in Pulaski County through the years!

Before joining the Kentucky Cancer Program in September 2017, she spent 31 years in local radio. She received her BA in broadcasting/journalism from Eastern Kentucky University in 1985 and uses her media experience and communications skills to help tell KCP’s story across eastern Kentucky. She is very involved in her community where she serves as president of the Somerset Junior Woman’s Club, Ambassador for the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, and director of Watershed Arts Alliance.

Music has always been an important part of her life. From listening to 45s on a small record player as a child, piano lessons as a tween, and church choir groups as a teen to singing in a Contemporary Christian band, planning Battles of the Bands, booking and promoting local musicians and bands at area events, and supporting local and regional music through social media as an adult, she has shown her respect for the art and the artists. Her favorite music to listen to is hard rock/80s-90s metal and New Age instrumentals...but she loves music in all the genres. If you looked at her Spotify or Pandora play lists and her personal vinyl and CD collections, you'd find everything from "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive", "Down with the Sickness" and "Fortnite" to "Gin & Juice", "Heart Like a Truck" and "Canon in D"...with lots of local and regional music spread throughout the collection.

‼️ MISSED LAST WEDNESDAY LIVE AND THE REPLAY ON SATURDAY? ‼️ Listen to the full interview here with 2 of Somerset, Kentucky’s talented independent singer-songwriters, Hunter Flynn Music and Logan Purcell Music!

We asked Logan about the incredible opportunity he’s had opening for rising country star Sean Stemaly and Walker Montgomery, son of country music legend John Michael Montgomery. Reflecting on these experiences, Logan shared:

💬 “It was just really surreal. And then having my friends be really excited for me and be like, ‘I listened to this guy. I know you’re opening for him.’ It’s just so cool. It took my words away both times. I didn’t even know what to say. Every time somebody asked me that, I’m like, ‘I don’t know.’ It was just an unreal experience that I hope I get to experience again.”

Hunter shared some exciting news about his music, saying:

💬 “I’ve been writing a little bit more. I’ve been writing with some people, which is new. It’ll be really cool, hopefully. I don’t know the turnaround time on this, but I’m thinking within the next couple months you can expect something—at least one song, maybe three.”

Hunter also revealed his goal of releasing a full album in 2025, though he admitted with a laugh that his perfectionist tendencies might delay the timeline. Beyond new music, Hunter will be traveling to the UK in February with fellow Kentucky independent artists Daniel Cain, Lance Rogers, and Greg Adams for a series of shows overseas.
