This week, TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center proudly recognizes Cassie, one of our outstanding circulators in the operating room (OR).

As a circulator, Cassie ensures everything in the OR runs smoothly. “We’re the only ones not scrubbed in during surgery,” she explains. “It’s our responsibility to manage the room and advocate for the patient, especially since they’re asleep and can’t speak for themselves.”

Cassie’s journey to the OR began as an LPN before she went back to school to pursue her RN. While she misses the one-on-one connection with awake patients, she values the moments before surgery when she can reassure patients and their families.

Originally from South Dakota, Cassie joined TriStar StoneCrest as a traveler in October and says it already feels like home. Coming from a larger hospital where teams were often siloed, she appreciates the close-knit environment here. “At TriStar StoneCrest, everyone works together like family. The support and collaboration are amazing.”

For those considering a career in the OR, Cassie advises patience and resilience. “OR nursing is specialized, and orientation takes time, but it’s worth it. You’re the advocate for your patient, and that’s a privilege.”

Outside of work, Cassie enjoys traveling, working out, reading, and spending time with friends.

Hello parents,

This is James Evans with Rutherford County Schools and we want to let you know about school on Friday.

As you know, all the forecasts are calling for significant snow to affect our county Friday and travel is not recommended. As such, Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan is closing all Rutherford County schools on Friday, Jan. 10. Again, all county schools will be closed on Friday, Jan. 10.

In addition, the central office will be closed and all extracurricular activities are canceled for Friday.

We will keep you updated about events for the weekend, and we will send an update on Sunday about school on Monday.

Please be safe, and we hope you enjoy the snow.

Due to multiple forecasts calling for significant winter storms including ice and snow tomorrow, Murfreesboro City Schools, including ESP and the MCS Central Office, will be closed on Friday, January 10, 2025.

Due to the inclement weather forecast, all town offices including Smyrna Town Hall, Smyrna Courts, Smyrna Golf Course, Smyrna Event Center and the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center will be closed on Friday, January 10, 2025. The safety and well-being of our residents and employees are of utmost importance, and we encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions to stay safe.

All essential personnel, including Police, Fire, Water Plant, and Waste Water Plant Departments, will continue to provide services.

We urge residents to stay updated through official town communication channels, including our website and social media.

For non-emergency related issues, residents should call the Smyrna Police Department Dispatch line at 615-459-6644 for emergencies, dial 911.

The Town of Smyrna is pleased to announce the opening of the town's sixth fire station, Station 4. We invite the public and government officials to commemorate the opening during a ceremony held on Monday, January 6 at 2:00 p.m., at 5650 West Jefferson Pike in Smyrna, TN.

The addition of a sixth fire station in Smyrna will improve the level of fire service throughout the community by decreasing response times. “We are excited to open the new fire station stated Mayor Mary Esther Reed, this new station off Jefferson Pike will continue to build on our current fire and emergency services in Smyrna.” Town of Smyrna officials worked with a team of professionals at TMP and Robins and Morton to manage the design and build of the construction project.

William R. Culbertson has announced his retirement as Fire Chief of Smyrna after thirty-five years of dedicated service, effective February 1st. Bill is a third-generation Smyrna Fire Chief and was the first full-time employee hired in the Fire Department in 1989. “I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such talented, driven, and passionate individuals,” said Culbertson.

Mayor Reed said, “Bill has been a pivotal part of this community for many years. I've known Bill my entire life and have worked with him for the past twenty-two years. This town has been blessed to have such a caring and dedicated individual as our Fire Chief."

Town Manager David Santucci stated, "With Chief Culbertson retiring, we've got some big shoes to fill. He's not someone you can replace. We'll start the recruitment process after the new year through an open and transparent process. This is a great opportunity, and I'm sure it will be a competitive recruitment."
