UPDATE - the ride is ahead of their expected arrival and will be approaching Sleepy Eye in about 30-45 minutes. Of course this is approximate, but if you want to greet them along the route in town, maybe head to south Hwy 4 a little after 2:00.

Just got an update on time - the ride is about 45 minutes away from Sleepy Eye, so will be arriving sooner than they expected. If you are going out to the highway to watch them come in, you might want to be there a little after 2 p.m.

We are excited to welcome the Makatoh Reconciliation and Healing Horse Ride to Sleepy Eye this afternoon. The riders, who are mostly youth, will arrive to Sleepy Eye from Highway 4 south and be escorted to the museum. They will load the horses for transport to the fairgrounds in New Ulm for the overnight. The riders will stay at Turner Hall for their evening meal and to sleep, then return to Sleepy Eye in the morning to start riding again on their journey toward Mankato. The estimate this morning is that they will arrive sometime around 3-4 p.m., with a closer time estimate coming this afternoon - so stay tuned. It would be wonderful to have people waiting along their route to support the riders. This photo was taken this morning as the group prepared to start the day's ride with a ceremony of prayer for reconciliation and healing - a prayer that will be on the minds of the riders and all involved as they travel. They stayed at the visitor's center at the Jeffers Petroglyphs yesterday for a day of rest, and last night.

Highway 4 detour south of Sleepy Eye removed today
Replacement of Cottonwood River Bridge south of Sleepy Eye complete
MANKATO, Minn. – Highway 4 from Sleepy Eye to Brown County Road 24 is expected to open to traffic by the end of the day today, December 9, as replacement of the Cottonwood River bridge is complete, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The MnDOT contractor is expected to return next spring to complete finishing work on the project.

The Highway 4 project between St. James to Sleepy Eye included roadway, bridge, and drainage improvements. In addition to resurfacing approximately 25 miles of roadway, three bridges were replaced.

Benefits of the project include improved pavement, drainage, and safety. Ulland Brothers, Inc. was awarded the project with a bid of $18,884,550.58.

MnDOT thanks the public for their patience during this project.
