BOXES OF FOOD TO BE GIVEN OUT

VOLUNTEERS ABLE TO LIFT AT LEAST 30 lbs ARE NEEDED.

There will be another amazing "Drive Through" Faith Temple Church Food Giveaway this Friday, January 24th at the Nordstrom-Johnson Building at the W.H.Lyons Fairgrounds. It is the building nearest to the Madison St. Entrance.

The Food Giveaway will be giving away up to 1,000 FULL boxes of supplemental food including meat, potatoes, eggs, Bread, sweets, soda and miscellaneous items.

The giveaway starts at 4pm and goes until about 6.

Also, please make sure there is enough room in your vehicle for the boxes to fit.

Please use the north W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds Madison St. entrance.

Volunteers please arrive by 2:30pm to help fill boxes.

South Dakota Retailers Elect President, Officers, Board Members

Sarah Hustead of Wall Drug in Wall has been elected President of the South Dakota Retailers Association Board of Directors. Board members are responsible for setting general policies, establishing goals and objectives, and determining legislative positions for the influential statewide business organization, founded in 1897.

Having served on the board since 2016, Hustead officially received the gavel from outgoing President Kevin Nyberg of Sioux Falls during the association’s annual business conference on January 13 in Pierre.

“Since 1897, this organization has been the voice of retail and hospitality in South Dakota,” Hustead said. “I'm humbled to take on this historic role and grateful for the opportunity to serve our dedicated members who make our communities stronger every day.”

In addition to Hustead, three other business owners were named as officers: Jason Harms of Harms Oil Company as President-Elect, David Mickelson of Graham Tire as Secretary-Treasurer, and Kevin Nyberg of Nyberg’s Ace and Dakota Workwear in Sioux Falls and Watertown as Past-President.

Six first-term board members were elected to serve in 2025, including Nick Caton of Killian's Food & Drink in Spearfish, Melissa Johnson of Oh My Cupcakes! in Sioux Falls, Erin Krueger of Freed's Fine Furnishings in Rapid City, Rodney Messmer of Lynn's Inc. in Rapid City, Michael Shoup of Oahe Pan in Pierre, and Rhonda Sprecher of Don't Spill the Beans in Huron.

RF Buche of the GF Buche Food Company based in Wagner and Scott Cross of Lewis Drug in Sioux Falls were re-elected to the board.

“Our board consists of outstanding South Dakota business professionals, and our newest members are no exception,” said Executive Director Nathan Sanderson. “With their dedication and expertise, we will continue to provide our members with unmatched information, advocacy, and services.”

Outgoing board members were also recognized for their contributions: Steve Beck of Beck Motors in Pierre; Sean Dempsey of Dempsey's Brewery Pub & Restaurant and Danger Von Dempsey's in Watertown, Aberdeen and Brookings; Debra Jensen of Jensen Enterprises in Rapid City; and Susan Peterson of Buffalo Jump Off Ranch in Belle Fourche.

Lane Closure – Kiwanis Avenue
Beginning on Monday, January 13, 2025, the outside northbound lane on South Kiwanis Avenue will be closed between 41st Street and Stone Place. TSB will be working in the area. This work is anticipated to be completed on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes

SDDOT Seeks Public Input on Interchange Modification and Environmental Study for Interstate 29 (Exit 86) at Renner/Crooks

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), in conjunction with the City of Crooks, the City of Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, Sioux Falls Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will hold a public meeting open house to receive public input on the Interchange Modification Study and the Environmental Study for Interstate 29 (exit 86) at Renner/Crooks. The public meeting open house is scheduled from 5:30 - 7 p.m. (CT) at Jefferson High School (1600 N. Marion Rd.) in Sioux Falls.

The purpose of the meeting is to review alternatives for the interchange, present the recommended alternative, review the environmental evaluation for the recommended alternative, and discuss next steps for the project. Area residents, business owners, and local commuters are encouraged to attend and participate in the study review.

Representatives from the SDDOT, City of Crooks, City of Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, Sioux Falls MPO, FHWA, and the consultant team staff will be available with displays to discuss the study information and answer questions. Participants will also have the opportunity to view a prerecorded presentation at multiple times throughout the night. For those unable to attend the in-person public meeting, or desire additional details, all meeting materials, including the prerecorded presentation, are available on the study website at https://buff.ly/4gOW1kX. Written comments will be accepted at the public meeting open house, through the study website, or through the study contact until Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025,
