Really enjoyed the South Dakota Rock and Roll Music Association (SDRRMA) induction last weekend. The talent was extraordinary!

One of the inductees was my good friend Dave Scarbrough, with whom I worked at Media One Advertising/Marketing for 7 years or so. A truly enormous, superb talent: a jack-of-all-trades--with skills encompassing web coding, video editing, graphic design, and, of course, music. Such a great show at the 15th South Dakota Rock & Rollers Hall of Fame induction! It was an honor to recognize so many legendary bands and individuals who have made a lasting impact on South Dakota’s rock history.

The South Dakota Rock and Roll community lost a legendary drummer and an even greater person on Thursday with the passing of Johnnie Bolin. While he was proud to be known as the brother of the iconic guitarist Tommy Bolin (inducted 2017), Johnnie made his own mark in music, performing with bands like DVC, Dare Force, and most notably, Black Oak Arkansas. He spent his life honoring Tommy’s legacy through tributes and interviews, but his own talents and kind heart earned him a place in the hearts of many. Johnnie was a true friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be deeply missed.

Johnnie Bolin, the longtime drummer of the classic rock group Black Oak Arkansas and brother of onetime Deep Purple guitarist Tommy Bolin, died Thursday at the age of 70.

Wow…What a night at the Battle of the Bands! 🔥 All the bands owned the stage and blew us away ~ with so much talent, from original music to amazing guitar riffs and a great crowd of fans, the judges definitely had a tough call!
