The Simpsonville Sentinel: Our Mission

A few years ago, we saw a need for a strictly local newspaper, and are happy to bring this paper to the Simpsonville community. The Simpsonville Sentinel’s mission is to enhance the Simpsonville community by publishing accurate and balanced news, information and entertainment stories that enlighten and elevate our lives. At The Simpsonville Sentinel, we bel

ieve that this newspaper can and should cover all the myriad sides of life in this city: the government, the education system, law enforcement, retailers, the people, the opportunities, the challenges, the everything – the whole wide wonderful world of life in this lovely Southern place. By presenting stories as events with histories to be explored, we hope to plant ideas, start crusades, and mold public opinion. We will investigate both sides of a story to report the who, what, why, where, when and how with fairness and integrity. Simpsonville is already a lovely place to live and work. In working to sustain and even improve our city, we must applaud those who encourage and promote our success and we must register dissent with those whose policies or activities we question. We invite the public to participate in this adventure by contributing opinions and ideas about stories of community interest to the main telephone number or by email. Your comments will always be valued. Disclaimer

District 28 School Board candidates sound off

On November 8th a nonpartisan Greenville County school board election will be held along with state and national races. We have chosen to highlight district 28 because most of our constituents live and work in this area. District 28 covers most of Fountain Inn, some of Simpsonville and also areas in Mauldin. The incumbent, Lisa Wells, decided not to file for this seat leaving 3 new candidates opting for this position.

The candidates for District 28 school board are Britney Hilbert, Jeff Cochran and Steven Watterson.

We chose five questions for these candidates to consider. Below are the responses to the questions from those candidates.

Editor's Note: We chose not to limit the word count to allow candidates freedom to respond in their own way......

See Jeff Cochran's responses here.

Editor's Note: through a clerical error, the published, printed edition of The Simpsonville Sentinel had incorrect information for Jeff Cochran. The responses here are what should have been published.
