The Equity Hour: Where the Political is Personal is a monthly show that airs on the first Monday of the month at 10 am and the following Sunday at 4 pm and is part of the Kindred Continuum series. For part III of their Immigration series, Co-hosts Cindy "Renee" Provencio and Kit West interviewed GiGi, a woman who worked in immigration detention centers in New Mexico 20 years ago. Many migrants shared their stories with GiGi, stories that stayed with her all these years. The stories shared in this episode are reminiscent of current migration stories and reveal the conditions that drive migration to the United States. Most importantly, this episode reminds us of the fact that migrants are worthy of human dignity, respect, safety and wellbeing.

In Tilantongo – Conversations from Indigenous Mexico; Conversaciones desde el México indigena, Phil and Kathy Dahl-Bredine bring perspectives and insights from Oaxaca, where they have lived with and learned from indigenous Mixtec people since 2001. This bilingual program features interviews with villagers, educators, environmental advocates, historians, and more.
This program features Miguel Angel Velazquez from the non-profit Services for an Alternative Education EDUCA. Miguel and EDUCA work to strengthen community government in indigenous villages across the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. We open the year with a discussion of what the indigenous communities can expect from new US and Mexican administrations in 2025. How will returned migrants under the Trump administration affect community life? Will changes in strategies for the control of organized crime create more violence there? Have trade treaties created more poverty in indigenous communities and more migration?

Gila Mimbres Community Radio is participating in the annual worldwide day of giving, generosity and doing good known as Giving Tuesday. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, this year December 3.

If your GMCR membership is up for renewal, or if you simply would like to support our local community radio, please consider going to https://gmcr.org and click on the donate button.

All donations made during the entire month of December - including Giving Tuesday - will be double matched by both the New Mexico Local News Fund and some special local benefactors. That means for every dollar you donate, GMCR will receive three dollars!

We will also be hosting an open house on Giving Tuesday from 10 am to 4 pm. Stop by and meet some of our on-air hosts, volunteers and Board members. Free coffee and donuts - coffee all day, donuts while they last!

Thank you.
