Stand Tall Little Twig is a delightful story of Twig, a young sapling, who is planted in his forever home and grows into a tall, mighty oak tree. Through the years the reader sees Twig grow big and tall from season to season, while the birds perch among his leaves, deer eat his acorns, and a little boy swings from his branches. The story is brought to life by the beautiful watercolor imagery of Tammy Jennings. It is a wonderful tale of nature and discovery suitable for children of all ages.

For better or worse, Walmart has become the crossroads of local America. And the guy directing the traffic at that crossroads is the ubiquitous, modern folk hero known as the Walmart Greeter. There is no greater greeter from that distinguished vocation than one Garry Warner. Having fervently fulfilled that role for years now, Garry has been observing, interviewing, noting, laughing and crying, all the while documenting the stories of some of his most interesting and intriguing guests, right there in the very entrance and aisles of the local Supercenter. From heartbreaking to inspiring, touching to aggravating, and from wacky to just plain weird, Garry has seen it all in America’s biggest retailer.

Now, for your enjoyment, and entertainment, he has compiled the collection of his very best stories that he has come across in the personable, folksy style that makes him excel at his position. All we can say is, “Attention Walmart shoppers, you are going to want one of these in your basket!

Mildred, Quit Hollering! and Other Ozark Folktales is the last collection of folktales by celebrated Ozarks historian and storyteller, Vance Randolph. These folktales—nearly forty in all—represent some of the best stories assembled by Randolph over five decades of wandering the hills and hollers of the Missouri/Arkansas Ozark Mountains—a celebration of the life and humor enjoyed by folks in rural America and assembled during Randolph’s final years spent in a nursing home.
Now published nearly forty-four years after Randolph’s death, Mildred, Quit Hollering! includes the biographies of the men and women who originally passed each story along to Randolph, which makes for interesting reading in itself, plus additional commentary from Augustus Finch, the self-proclaimed “Reverend, Biblical Expositor and Eschatologist”, who presents an entire new collection of his own b***y tales.
The last compilation of “Mr. Ozark” himself, Mildred, Quit Hollering! is both a tribute to the late Vance Randolph, but also a reminder that people are still people wherever you go, and it’s okay to laugh at ourselves sometimes.
