North Texas...HISTORIC WINTER STORM POISED TO IMPACT THE REGION SUNDAY AND MONDAY... Impacts will begin as early as Saturday morning with patchy freezing drizzle developing late tonight into Saturday morning, which will lead to a light glaze of ice in some locations. After a brief break in precipitation on Saturday, conditions will begin to deteriorate late Saturday evening, with precipitation transitioning from a sleet and freezing rain mix to all snow by Sunday. The heaviest snow can be expected on Sunday and Monday. High winds will lead to blowing and drifting snow with wind chills falling to below zero by late Sunday. Snow will come to an end during the day Monday, but extremely cold temperatures will persist through mid-week. The heavy snow and forecast long duration of extremely cold temperatures will likely lead to major stress on the region's infrastructure as well as crippling travel for several days

01/24/2021

No major changes to the forecast for the rest of today and tonight. Still looking at an isolated hail threat this afternoon/evening in North Texas, transitioning to mainly a wind threat overnight with storms along a cold front.

01/24/2021

Here's the latest on the potential for severe weather today and tonight:

Most of North Texas will have some threat for severe weather through the overnight hours. There is a low chance that a few storms could develop late this afternoon/evening mainly north of I-20. These would have primarily a hail threat.

A line of showers/storms is expected to move through the region overnight. There will be a threat for damaging winds and perhaps an embedded tornado or two with this line overnight. Timing is indicated in the graphic below.

01/23/2021

There is still a chance for severe weather across parts of North Texas late Sunday into the overnight hours. Storm chances will increase late in the day and become highest along a front during the nighttime hours. The greatest threat for severe weather will be generally along and north of I-20 to the Red River. Hail will be the primary threat, especially with any initial storms, but there will also be a low threat for damaging winds and isolated tornadoes within the line of storms along the front. Stay tuned for further updates to the forecast through Sunday.

Widespread rain and snow are expected on Sunday as a strong cold

WINTER WEATHER OUTLOOK...

* WHAT...Snow possible this weekend.

* WHEN...Late Saturday through Sunday night.

* WHERE...Much of North and Central Texas.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be impacted where accumulations occur. The
best chances for measurable snowfall greater than 4 inches will
be west of the U.S. Highway 281 corridor. Accumulating snowfall
of up to 3 inches will be possible elsewhere. Travel impacts may
linger into Monday morning for areas that receive the heaviest
snowfall.

* ADDITIONAL INFORMATION...There is still considerable uncertainty
regarding where and how much snow will accumulate. More details
will become clear in the coming days, so check back for
forecast updates for your area.

01/08/2021

A strong cold front will invade from the north this weekend as rain
and snow approach from the west. Much of the region can expect to see
precipitation on Sunday with the greatest potential for accumulating
snowfall west of the I-35 corridor. Although the winter weather event
will come to an end Sunday night, impacts to travel may linger into
the Monday morning commute.
