Job Overview:
Our client, a respected leader in the maritime industry, is seeking a proactive and service-oriented Ship Chandler to join their team.
The Ship Chandler plays a crucial role in sourcing, stocking, and delivering essential goods to docked vessels, ensuring that each ship’s crew has timely access to high-quality provisions and supplies.
This role is key in maintaining efficient, responsive service for incoming vessels and supporting our client’s dedication to outstanding maritime service standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management & Supply Coordination:
Source and maintain an organized, well-stocked inventory of common maritime supplies such as food provisions, technical spare parts, fuel, safety gear, and other essentials.
Track inventory levels to ensure high-demand items are readily available for visiting vessels.
Plan inventory based on ship schedules, anticipating demand and restocking needs to meet client requirements.
Order Fulfillment & Logistics:
Accurately receive and fulfil supply orders from captains, officers, or designated ship personnel.
Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to prepare and arrange deliveries to vessels promptly.
Supervise the safe loading, transportation, and unloading of supplies to ensure quality and compliance with maritime regulations.
Client Relationship Management:
Build strong, professional relationships with ship crews, captains, and port operators to better understand and fulfil specific supply needs.
Serve as the primary contact for all supply requests, adjustments, and special needs, ensuring a responsive and client-centric approach.
Offer informed recommendations on product choices, alternatives, or substitutions based on availability and vessel needs.
Compliance & Safety Adherence:
Ensure all supplied goods meet health, safety, and maritime regulatory standards.
Follow established safety protocols and company policies for the handling and transportation of goods to prevent accidents and ensure compliance.
Maintain accurate records for inventory, delivery logs, and transactions, aiding in reporting and regulatory documentation.
Market Monitoring & Supplier Relations:
Conduct regular market research and engage with suppliers to negotiate favourable pricing and terms.
Track trends in maritime supply need to provide recommendations on new products, cost-saving opportunities, and service enhancements that benefit both our client and the vessels served.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in ship chandler services, maritime logistics, supply chain management, or a similar field.
Knowledge: Strong familiarity with maritime supplies, shipping operations, and port protocols.
Skills:
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-first approach.
Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
Basic proficiency with inventory and logistics software is preferred.
Certifications: Valid driver’s license and forklift certification (preferred).
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
