What are you missing today in The Pioneer News?

So many things, so little time.

Of course, the big event -- the Shepherdsville City Fair and Bullitt Blast -- is the top story. This year's event is on Friday and Saturday, June 28-29, at the city park. Free rides this year. Booths, food trucks and music both days. Fireworks around 10 p.m. on Saturday. Free parking is around the outskirts of the area in downtown Shepherdsville.

Speaking of Shepherdsville, the 2024-25 budget continues to be large. And while construction costs have risen, city officials still have all of the projects in the upcoming budget. Between the $30 million loan and general fund dollars, officials are looking to keep projects, and the regular work, on track.

The finale of a three-part series on the HANDS program features a local couple who has benefited twice.

Eastside Middle is looking to raise funds for an all-inclusive playground and a steakhouse owner is looking to make Bullitt County home for his newest restaurant.

North Bullitt started a boys' volleyball program in the spring and there are plenty of summer camp photos.

Hundreds and hundreds of names are listed in Charles Hartley's monthly column. Could you or your family be listed? Better check it out.

It is budget time in the classified section of the newspapers as government agencies are required to print their budgets -- telling you what they are spending your tax dollars on in the next 12 months.

TRAFFIC ALERT... again...

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of rolling roadblocks on Interstate 65 South Thursday, June 27, in Bullitt County.

Rolling roadblocks will take place on I-65 South from mile marker 117 (near KY 44) to mile marker 114 (near Ohm Drive) beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, continuing through midnight. The rolling roadblocks are necessary as KYTC crews patch concrete slabs along the corridor.

Due to ongoing construction for the I-65 roadway rehabilitation project between mile point 104.7 and mile point 110.7 in Bullitt and Hardin Counties, motorists should plan ahead, expect travel delays and seek an alternate route by using navigation apps like Waze.

The three-lane portion is partially open southbound, closer to Lebanon Junction, but all southbound traffic is now on the new section of pavement between Clermont and Lebanon Junction.

So what might you be missing if you haven't gotten your copy of The Pioneer News today?

Simply put... a whole lot.

There is a recap of the 2024-24 budget for Bullitt County. The big spending on equipment is over and now the focus is on sustaining the revenue and controlling the expenditures.

Did you know that Bullitt County set another record in terms of tourism-related revenue and jobs produced? The economic impact of tourism was over $170 million last year.

There are several plans for road improvements on East Blue Lick Road at the John Harper Highway... and some include a roundabout.

State laws on medical ma*****na will be changing shortly and local governments will have a say in how they will be handled. Mount Washington is the first agency to discuss the changes.

Lebanon Junction has paid for its sewer plant renovations and now it won't need occupational tax dollars. That leaves more money in the general fund.

Freedom Elementary held its DARE graduation in May and it would be the last for the late Pioneer Village police chief D.J. Reynolds, who taught the class.

Mount Washington held a special meeting today to talk about the budget but questions still arose with hopes to pass the document on Monday, June 24.

Lots and lots of Bullitt County Fair pictures, including pageant winners.

Each year, the Bullitt County Scottish Rite honors students who have overcome obstacles to reach success. Nine schools had students who were honored.

There is crime and indictments included in today's paper.

Are there any sports? Of course. Bullitt Central introduces its new girls' basketball coach and she has long-time ties to the community.

The district baseball teams are announced, as well as the Sixth Region team.

And several athletes signed to play college ball.

Are we done? Nope. Morgan's Mission presents four scholarships and the retired teachers are honored. Plus, the new principal of Nichols Elementary is named.

What would it cost to build a new central office for the school board and what would be the cost of simply expanding and renovating the current facility? You might be surprised.

Oh, if you happen to want to see who owes delinquent county taxes, that list is in Thursday's paper.

There's great coupon deals in the paper, also.

So much for such a small price. Only $39.99 if you call 502-543-2288 ext. 1 to become a new subscriber.
