What does the Feds Rate Cut Mean!
Prime Rate VS Federal Funds Rate.

There have been numerous misconceptions circulating in the media following the Fed's decision to cut rates. Many outlets have reported that with the Fed's 50 basis point cut, mortgage rates will automatically drop by 0.5%, showing potential savings for consumers. However, this is misleading. The Fed is not directly lowering mortgage rates; instead, they are adjusting the overnight rate that banks use for interbank lending.

When the Fed reduces the Federal Funds Rate, it decreases the cost for banks to borrow from one another. This change impacts the borrowing rates for businesses and consumers as well as the interest rates that banks and financial institutions offer on deposits. The Fed's goal in lowering the Federal Funds Rate is to stimulate economic activity.

This process, known as monetary "easing," typically boosts aggregate demand for goods and services and raises employment levels.

The Prime Rate is the interest rate that banks and credit unions charge their customers, including large corporations. It serves as a benchmark for various loans.
