STATE REP. KARA ROCHELLE WINS RE-ELECTION OVER DAVID CASSETTI.
Unofficial numbers: 4,670 Rochelle to 3,969 Cassetti.
Those unofficial numbers do not include absentee ballots.
Cassetti conceded earlier this evening, saying there were not enough absentee ballots out there to overcome Rochelle's lead.
NYFD Firefighter Mike Moran
NEW YORK CITY -- Mike Moran was a New York City firefighter with Ladder 3 whose brother, FDNY Battalion Chief John Moran, was killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Six weeks after the attacks, Moran, of Rockaway, Queens -- a community that lost 59 people on Sept. 11 -- had the chance to address the crowd during "The Concert for New York City," a benefit show at Madison Square Garden.
In a short speech, made after The Who had performed, Moran talked about the death of his brother and another firefighter, Capt. Louis Modaferri.
Toward the end of his talk he uttered a line that encapsulated the spirit of New York City and the country at that terrible moment -- unity and resilience.
"And I want to say one more thing. In the spirit of the Irish people, Osama bin Laden: you can kiss my royal Irish a**."
In an interview with NBC NY ten years later, Moran said it was important to show the world that "we were not beaten."
