The Photographic Nights of Selma Festival is back again for its fifth year, showcasing a plethora of artwork through photography. Starting Friday, Nov. 1 through Saturday Nov. 2, workshops, seminars and introductory presentations of the photographers’ artwork will take place at 1018 Water Avenue starting at 9 a.m. at The Selma Times-Journal building on the first floor.

Due to worsening drought conditions and no significant rain predicted in the long-range forecast, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has now placed all counties across the state under a fire danger advisory. This advisory is effective immediately and will remain in place until enough precipitation is received to improve drought impacts.

The Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has issued a Fire Danger Advisory for Dallas County until significant rainfall is received. The Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority has received $556,000 through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Cleanup Grant program. The funds will be put to use to remove the old dilapidated gymnasium complex on the base to remove asbestos and other contaminants contained in the old building, according to Craig Field director Jim Corrigan.
