Due to worsening drought conditions and no significant rain predicted in the long-range forecast, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has now placed all counties across the state under a fire danger advisory. The Selma COA Food Pantry embarks on its 10th anniversary, giving back to the community by serving non-perishable food items. This year, at the food pantry, located at 700 J.L. Chestnut Blvd., received food items such as salmon, chicken, cheese and a variety of vegetables during their annual food drive Friday.

The Footsoldiers Park administrative suites and a political organization known as The Institute for Common Power embarked on a new journey together in Downtown Selma. The Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has issued a Fire Danger Advisory for Dallas County until significant rainfall is received. The Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority has received $556,000 through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Cleanup Grant program. The funds will be put to use to remove the old dilapidated gymnasium complex on the base to remove asbestos and other contaminants contained in the old building, according to Craig Field director Jim Corrigan.

The Selma City Schools’ transportation department is going green with its yellow school buses. The district has received a $1.7 million grant through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program to purchase five electric buses to add to its fleet.
