*OPPOSITION CHIEF WHIP BLOWS HOT ON THE GOVERNMENT FOR ITS INEPTITUDE TO ADDRESS WATER CRISIS IN THE COUNTRY!*

It's very shameful for a nation that had gained independence for over 60 years without having constant basic amenities. One of them is water which has become peculiar to the extent that majority of the population are yet suffering from securing safe driving water. In other words, this should not have been an issue considering the resources being allocated in the sector year in- year out . Who is to be blamed?

However, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara unavoidably illuminated on some of the national issues during the Presidential norminees Approval debate and of them is water crisis that is presently inhibiting the existence of the citizens in the country.

During his submission, he categorically stated that it is very disheartening for a nation like Sierra Leone where State House, Presidential Lodge, Parliament are solely depending on water bouncer to provide water for them daily.

He went on to analyze that if such reputable institutions are depending on water bouncer; what's the fate for the ordinary citizens who are not opportune to get such opportunity? He maintained that the government is paying lip service to the water sector as it's impossible to talk about food sufficiency without water.

He further narrated that he is optimistic that new boss in the Guma Valley sector would utilize his expertise to ensuring that water become accessible to everyone in the city .

On the 13th June 2024, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara was at Radio Democracy (98.1) where he was delighted to unearth some of the peculiar issues that are presently eating into the fabric of the society.

At first, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara robustly stated that since this administration came into existence opposition members have been enduring enough ranging from bullying, intimidation, harassment, arbitrary arrests and forceful repatriation without justice.

He continued to say that the saying of *WINNERS* *TAKE ALL* under this regime is not the issue for the country's stagnation but the mentality of those in the whelm of affairs are the very blood for the current political and socio-economical impasse.

He further to note that oppositions are not enemies as the government in the last half decade have been tagged them to be terrorists, coupists which are clear indicators to ignite unrest in the country. He said, oppositions are meant to position the government and they must be given the opportunity to execute their constitutional mandate.

In addition, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara outrightly reference parliament that irrespective of the challenges they are envisaging but when it's come to issues that have to deal with the welfare of the citizens most times they arrived at a concession and as a result they are working together for the common good.

Furthermore, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara unavoidably illuminated on the ongoing constitutional review as he lamented that since the government resumed the process they were never consulted instead the government is clandestinely reviewing the constitution which is contrary to the laws of the land. He iterated that if the government is sincere and willing to work with them as a political party they would have requested their meaningful input for national cohesion.

He therefore, caution the government that reviewing a constitution is not a sole proprietorship but partnership if they failed to do the needful posterity will judge them in the mere future.

*" OUR WOMEN, OUR DIGNITY"- OPPOSITION CHIEF WHIP* !

It is crystal clear that prior to now, Sierra Leone women had been deprived, marginalized, bottled-up, intimidated due to superstitious beliefs that they are meant to be in the kitchen. This myth contributed greatly for so many women to be left uneducated which as well contributed to the downfall of the nation. Chauvinism becomes order of the day as almost all the foremost offices are dominated by men.

However, since the implementation of the 30 percent quota, there's massive improvement on women welfare as there are laws that are protecting their rights. Women are presently occupying strategic positions in governance which is a dawn for development.

On Thursday 20th June 2024, a private member bill: *" Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2024* " was tabled in parliament where Parliamentarians debated the bill extensively as its contained enormous opportunities for women.

Opposition Chief Whip, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara championed the debate as he was full of enthusiasm to note that 30 percent quota would not work effectively if there are no perceptible laws for women. He mentioned that women of this nation have been left behind considering the global trend about women empowerment.

Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara went on to narrate that all the female Parliamentarians are very intelligent and industrious as they have been contributing immensely for national development. He emphasized that if those women had been forced into untimely marital homes there is no proclivity for them to attain such height. And as a result, the issue of child marriage must be abolished as women are capable of handling the affairs of the nation if chances are given to them.

" *Our women, our dignity",* he made this statement to notifying the World that women need to be pampered; they must be treated equal and to be free from all sort of domestic violence.

*" STOP EXCUSES, GO TO WORK"- OPPOSITION CHIEF WHIP!*

Many Sierra Leoneans believe that since the SLPP took up governance development has become circumvented due to their ineptitude to provide quality leadership that could have improved the lives of the citizens indiscriminately. The worst part of it all is that some of the developmental strides that they met on the table ( Mamama Airport projet) that would have mitigated the effects of poverty on the land as well being placed under the green carpet as a result of gimmick politics.

It is well known that during the regime of APC under the leadership of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, most of the towns and cities were having even electricity supply and as matter of fact there was poverty reduction. Many citizens were living average life due to energy, there was massive investment but since the inception of this current administration things have gone from bad to worse.

On the 26th June 2024, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara was in the well where he was able to channel some of the atypical issues that are serving as impediment towards the progression of the nation.

During the submission, Opposition Chief Whip made it clear that the numerous excuses the government is giving in the aspect of power outage they are not novelty because those challenges have been surfacing during the reign of APC yet, the citizens were enjoying themselves with unwavering electricity. He emphasized that electricity is the substratum for any nation to develop without it the country would continue to be at the backdoors of development whilst other nations are progressing.

*" FEED SALONE IS A SCAM"-OPPOSITION CHIEF WHIP!*

It is well known that prior to now, President Maada Bio out rightly promised the citizens that in his second term all Sierra Leoneans would have sufficient to eat as: " *Feed Salone* " becomes their flagship project. This statement in other words captivated most of the electors to cast their votes in his favour hoping that such lofty promise would be fulfilled. Immediately after the electoral commissioner pronounced him as the winner nothing good to write home about as the country's economy is under life support.

Many believe that since the country gained its independence this is the most debilitating and agonizing period they are enduring under the leadership of President Maada Bio due to the prevalent human rights violations; acute starvation, malnutrition, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, political intimidation and harassment.

To ascertain this, according to the report released by Food Security Monitoring System in 2024, stated that 82 percent of the population are food insecure among which 18 percent of households are severely food insecure. Also, 68 percent of the surveyed households reported spending more than 75 percent of their total income on food.

This unfortunate occurrence is as a result of the inability of the government to allocate huge sum as well to monitor how those resources should be utilized for the growth of the sector. This has clearly justified that the country's agricultural system is only viable on black and white because those who are saddle to do the needful are solely seeing on the surface not in the field to implement their skills for the common good.

However, in the late hours of today, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara visited some of the market places in the Western Area Urban where he was fortunate to interact some of the business people together with consumers on how they are coping, especially wherein prices of commodities have skyrocketed unjustly.

To his dismay, he discovered that many citizens are presently surviving like magicians as the market is no longer friendly neither the dealers nor consumers. He mentioned that since he was born this is the worst time for the citizens as there is no optimism for the future.

In addition, Opposition Chief Whip stated that the current predicament is not meant for ethnic groups, regions, political affiliation but it's affecting almost all shapes of life except for those who are controlling the wealth of the nation.

Also, Opposition Chief Whip disclosed that he is full of shocks that the President promised the people of this country that within three months every citizen would have enough to eat but his statement has appeared to be ironical as starvation has become order of the day.

Additionally, *" Feed Salone is a Scam!",* Opposition Chief Whip noted this as each year government spend huge sum to import basic commodities; rice, tomatoes, onions, maize etc. He maintained, If it was a government that is willing and ready to feed the nation as they promised instead of spending such resources they would have utilized them to purchase more implement and empower the farmers yet is the inverse.

Moreover, he emphasized that based on what is currently unfolding in the country there is no assurance that there would be a breathing space as the government is only focusing on how to divert public funds for their personal vendetta.

Furthermore, he caution the government that in order to provide an enabling environment for the people they should diversified the country's economy as that would rather than to focus on mining as a priority.

Finally, He concluded that let the citizens continue to endure because as it's stand the center cannot hold and things have fallen apart.

*OPPOSITION CHIEF WHIP CALLS ON PRESIDENT BIO TO HAVE SECOND THOUGHT ABOUT THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE ACT, 2024!*

It's evident that Criminal Procedure Act, 2024 has become one of the most much-talked about issues in the country due to its controversial clauses.

However, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara has succinctly demystified the intricacies of the ACT as he rightly said that this particular law is one of the best Sierra Leoneans should embrace considering its enormous opportunities.

According to the Opposition Chief Whip, it is a law that could address issues of preliminary investigations, custodians tendencies which implies that there were minors cases in which perpetrators have to spend more years in prison which in turn could cost more burden on the government and with new Act it would now become a history to tell.

*OPPOSITION CHIEF WHIP EXPRESSES OPTIMISM THAT PRESIDENT BIO WILL NOT SIGN THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE ACT, 2024* !

As the Criminal Procedure Act continues to garner more public attention due to some of its clauses, especially in the area of abolition of jury system. This part of the laws has ignited the embers to the extent many are with the notion that if the President appends his signature it will serves as a threshold to eliminate democratic principles.

As it is stand, opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara continues to appeal to the President for him not to sign the Act as he described it to be one of the laws that posseses the proclivity to trash fair trials.

He reiterated that President Bio would not sign the document considering public outcry as similar bill: " *Abortion* *Bill* " was enacted but due to the public feedback about the Act, the then President did not appended his signature. In that regard, he is very hopeful that President Bio will follow suit to save the image of the nation.

He further to clarify that there are countries; Gambia, South Africa, Nigeria that had expunged jury system in their law books but that occured during the era when those nations were not democratic. He maintained that for Sierra Leone, jury system has been part of the judicial procedures and it is working effectively to ensure fair trials as well as to maintain democracy.

Recently, the citizens saw a video on social media wherein one of the supporters of the administration, Mr. Kadiru Kaikai threatening to wage war if the pending elections are unfavorable for him. He went on to state that he would start the war in the northern region which as well indicated regionalism as well as tribalism.

However, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara unavoidably refuted the indecent statements made by Mr. Kadiru KaiKai as one of the foes of the state and which as a party they are ever ready to resist any attempt from the administration to ignite instability in the country.

Also, Opposition Chief Whip went on to note that what Mr. Kadiru Kaikai was to create insecurity and as Opposition Party they are anticipating to see the law take its course.

Furthermore, according to Opposition Chief Whip the current administration has appeared that the only way some of their supporters to be recognized is to cause mayhem against the Opposition Members in which at the end they are cordially rewarded.

Moreover, he reiterated that the post war traumas are yet afresh in the minds of the people as many lost their properties and love ones. However, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon.Abdul Karim Kamara during the launching of the membership registration in the Southern Region, Bo District he succinctly demystified the essence of the ongoing registration.

At first, He started to unveiling that even within the party they need justice as some members of the party were disenfranchised as they were not given the opportunity to own membership cards. And as a result, the membership registration is crucial as it's meant to address some of those challenges.

In addition, Opposition Chief Whip continued to narrate that if some of those supporters are talking about *Electoral* *Justice* they as MPs needed it most as during the last parliament out of 68 parliamentarians 10 were forcefully removed without any justice prevailed.

He furthered to note that it is impossible to discuss *Electoral* *Justice* where some members of the party are yet to realize justice; *Satta Lamin* as she was brutally r***d and others members are still in exile due to their loyalty to the party and as it's now there is no justice for those members.

Moreover, Opposition Chief Whip stated that any moment some members of the party are given the opportunity the next step is to connive with some unscrupulous members either within or outside the party to abrupt the progress of the party through the utilization of the court.

Also, He emphasized that if they cannot structure the party it is impossible for the party to seek Electoral Justice for its members.

Again, he mentioned that in as much as they are craving for *Electoral* *Justice* , the existence of APC party is as well significant. In that vein, they as MPs are not only supporting the process but as well part of the ongoing registration and the APC cannot disassociate itself from *Electoral Justice* as it's as well necessary for the party to carry out its mandates as being enshrined in the constitution.

It's no longer a secret that there are good number of students that West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), and Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education have disqualified from taking the pending WASSCE as they claimed their heads of school failed to upload their CASS.

In the early hours of today, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara visited Liberty online Tv where he robustly stated that whether the affected students are 150,000 or 30,000 that should not be the bone of contention but rather to ask if those affected students are not Sierra Leoneans for them to be deprived from taking the forthcoming WASSCE.

Also, Opposition Chief Whip unavoidably interrogated the government based on their attempt to disqualify hardworking students that have been preparing for the exams; why is it that private schools are not giving the opportunity to pay for their students? What are the benefit WAEC or the ministry will get if those candidates are not opportune to sit the exams? Is it that the government do not have the usual resources to pay for the students?

Again, he outrightly stated that 30% CASS should not be a priority for candidates to determine their fate as there is proclivity for them to pass the exams with flying colors without CASS. He maintained that those students should be allowed to take their exams as it's part of their fundamental human rights.

He also said that the ministry together with WAEC did not allocate ample time to educate heads of school on the CASS issue as that is one of the prevailing factors that has affected most of the schools.

He therefore, continues to call on the President to put premium on the issue as those institutions that are responsible to augment his efforts in the area of educating the nation are the very blood that are clandestinely undermining the process.

He emphasized that If prompt actions are not taking to revert the decision of the Ministry as well as WAEC the country is heading to its doom because the progress of any nation lies on the hands of the young generation.

*" IF GOVERNMENT FAILS TO HONOUR* *THE CRIES OF THE POOR STUDENTS, COURT WILL BE THE ALTERNATIVE"- OPPOSITION CHIEF WHIP* !

Many are with perspective that for Sierra Leone to be at the backdoor of quality education, West Africa Examination Council and Ministry of Basic and Secondary School are among the factors that responsible for such uncanny situation in the country as there are ocular proofs for justification.

It's obvious that Since opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara brought the issue of some students that have been deprived from taking the forthcoming WASSCE in the limelight, it has become a topical issue as almost all walks of life are keen on the issue to know whether there will be a remedy or not.

Few days ago, Parliament through Education Committee invited the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education (MBSSE) to face questioning in relation to the issue has to deal with thousands of students that have been omitted from the register to sit the forthcoming WASSCE.

During the examinations, representatives from aforesaid institutions succinctly narrated their own part of the story, especially the CASS issue as one of set alternatives for the exams. Irrespective of their plethora explanations majority have viewed it as if the Education Committee is just throwing water on duck back as the two institutions have came to acquiescence to deprive the poor parents as well as students.

However, Opposition Chief continues to express his dissatisfaction over the submissions of WAEC and the Ministry as they are yet to provide resolutions that would enabling the deprived students to partake on the exams. " *We have been in this fight for the past weeks but it's seem WAEC and Ministry is looking for delay tactics* ".

" If government fails to listen to the cries of the parents and the students, within 72 hrs I will sue them to court". He made this known to the general public that if those institutions reluctantly denied the future of those students he will utilize the country as the only alternative to prevail justice for the affected students.

He emphatically stated that 30% CASS should not be a priority for candidates to determine their fate as there is tendency for them to pass the exams with flying colors without CASS. He maintained that with all indicators those students should be incorporated in the register to write the exams.

He further to say that he is not doing this to score political goal but to ensure that issue of impunity in some of those institutions come to a halt as it's has become a norm to them.

He therefore, continues to call on the President to remove his lense and keen on the issue as those institutions that are responsible to augment his efforts are the very blood that are clandestinely undermining the process.
