The sea turtle nesting beaches of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge are protected because conservation and community leaders had a shared vision and the courage to make significant investments to keep these beaches natural and undeveloped. This Palm Sunday, Brevard County recognizes one of those leaders by dedicating Coconut Point Park in memory of community leader, Val Steele.

The government shouldn't have to step in to require you to wear a mask. The United States has over twice the number of documented cases compared to the next most infected country and in many states the numbers are sharply increasing. You should wear a mask so we can attempt to eliminate this virus as efficiently as possible and save future generations from dealing with the same problem. Imagine, if our ancestors could have done a better job to stop Influenza in the beginning. Wouldn't you have wanted them to do everything they could have to prevent it from spreading? Personally, I would like to have avoided the weeks I've spent sick in my life. Sick days are days you don't get back and they sure aren't fun. Don't be selfish. Think about how your actions will affect the future of this great nation and your future descendants. If everyone wore a proper mask (and I don't mean a useless bandanna), we would not only make a huge difference with COVID-19 but we also effectively stop the spreading of many other airborne bacteria and illnesses. The more we wear masks now, the less we will have to wear them later.

Florida is breaking new records for daily infection counts. It has doubled in the last week and the results are delayed, meaning it could be worse than reported. Please continue to wear your masks, keep your social distance from each other, and limit your shopping to necessities if you cannot get it delivered. This virus isn't going away and no one can tell you the long term effects of the virus if you do survive it. If you think your immune system is strong enough to live through a barely breathing, sleepless week of 103 fevers, consider your neighbors in this very elderly community. This city would not survive a mass outbreak.
