The Major League Baseball Home Run Derby has its first confirmed contestant, and it will give the hometown crowd a clear favorite.

Seattle Mariners star outfielder Julio Rodriguez will compete in the derby on July 10 at T-Mobile Park, the day before the All-Star Game. Rodriguez finished runner-up in last season's Home Run Derby, and he went on to win the American League Rookie of the Year award at the end of the season.

Snow accumulations begin late tonight across the metro area.

By midnight, a steady snow is likely throughout the Sound—including in Seattle, Everett and Tacoma. The snow is likely to intensify from about King County northward on Tuesday morning, with the mercury hugging the freezing mark in Seattle near dawn.

From late tonight into early tomorrow afternoon, 2 to 4 inches of snow is likely across most of Seattle, with higher amounts (up to 6 inches) possible to the north and east.

Emerald City Comic Com is back in Seattle and thousands of people will descend on downtown this weekend for the annual convention, which has seen some ups and downs over the last few years.

The ECCC was held in 2019 but was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It returned in December 2021 after a delay that again was blamed on COVID-19.

This year the convention runs from Thursday, Aug. 18 to Sunday, Aug. 21.

Organizers anticipate that about 65,000 people will attend.
