Thanks to everyone who has been listening to the newest Barnacle album - Archtypicolossus!

One hour of heavy-duty PNW noise, dark ambient, and headphone-candy freak-out for the psych-leaning weirdos.

Stream it at barnacle-noise.bandcamp.com. Also available on microcassette! What?!

There are a few new artists we will be working with that we are super excited about... we are also planning more live shows this year, showcasing some of our artists... more info coming down the pike shortly...

Archetypicolossus is a noise album, and the third from myself under the name Barnacle.

A record mostly mixed in the middle of the night while watching Zephyr, our beloved dog, who passed away in early September.

For most of 2024, I wasn't getting the greatest sleep. Zephyr turned 17 in May and kept late night hours, so I was mostly sleeping in the front room, taking care of him. Since he needed extra care, it wasn't the year for live shows or even late nights at the practice space, but these recordings will always remind me of this time, and the unique bond we shared in his last year on terra firma.

The Barnacle format worked for this arrangement, and the sleep deprivation lent itself to some strange musical choices. I typically made improvisational drones and ambient soundscapes with synths and pedals during days off while doing laundry. Then, at night, using headphones, I would assemble and mix, allowing for the "jams" to be cobbled together.

Zephyr was a Xoloitzcuintle, an ancient Aztec breed from Mexico that is mostly hairless, although Zephyr had a black coat. Many stories and legends exist depicting Xolos (for short) helping their people through the afterlife. He certainly helped me learn about myself and how my actions affect others in this life. Perhaps we will see each other again on another plane.

Anyways. Here's an hour worth of turbulent ambient... Hope you find some of it to be entertaining. ~brent

DVD now available... The Grindylow - City of Cranes - A documentary by Marcell Marias

"The film took these rock'n'rollers to 8 Seattle venues in 8 consecutive days and (we) filmed the whole thing. Plus, there are added snippets of conversations about gentrification, the rising cost of living, and what that means for artists in the booming Northwest city. "

Released today is our first romp with songster Quincy Einstein and the Oddities. The EP is titled "Shatter" and it's a catchy, melodic vamp that may cause smiling.

It's unlike a lot of the stuff from our current catalog, and one might even call it cheery. It's supposed to be a foot-tappin' good time during the darkest month. After this, we will go back to the weird and wild... so don't fret.

Quincy Einstein is his stage name, but I know him as Jackson… and Jackson is a young man who I feel a kinship to in music and friendship. His background in live performance is as long as his discography…. A kind-hearted soul who uses music as a way to navigate the thoughts and feelings we experience along the way in this thing called life.

I personally got to know him from when he would busk across the street from Georgetown Records on the corner of Airport Way, in Georgetown, a gritty, diesel filled, urban neighborhood in South Seattle, which my friends and I called home for years. There was a window of time where this community offered so much love for art and music, that we all never wanted to leave. Jackson was just one of the many wonderful people who I was lucky enough to get to know in those memorable years.

Seattle is where he got his start but he has busked in Portland, LA, San Diego, Austin, Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis (Tennessee and Alabama), Athens, Georgia and where he currently resides… Stillwater, Oklahoma.

His music floats between bluesy romps and sweet melodic ditties. Some of his past releases have literally been therapy for Jackson. I only know this because he said so much. But this collection of songs comes from a different frame of reference. He calls these recordings love songs for mother nature. In his words, “This album is, as a whole, a love letter to the world around me. To the beauty of mother nature, to the kindness and love that our fellow humans can show us.”

And of course, congratulations to Blue Jay Blue for a successful record release party. Your songs are riveting, and I appreciate you having me join in.

The newest thing we've been working on is building a merch shop on esty. We are happy with what bandcamp does, and that's the first place we're pushing, but we believe in exploring around. Some say etsy has been taken over by drop-shippers, but I think it might be fitting for us.

We thought it might be worth a shot, and it doesn't cost much (almost free). Might seem weird, but we are making things that are unique and all about diy aesthetics. I personally use etsy to buy neat noise makers that you can't find anywhere else...

The main difference is that the esty store offers some bargains for bundles of physical media. Plus, free shipping for the Realms and Ruins Volume I comp!

Find us on etsy if that's a way you like to shop. Thanks!
