As your former DJ who pulled in to help me out in 1995 (kind of a cool season), it makes me so damn proud to congratulate Gregg Greene on an incredible and very well-deserved promotion to Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications. Excellent choice ! The character of every individual in today’s news absolutely represents what makes the Mariners organization a standout in . And back to Gregg: an incredible father, husband, son and friend! Love you, GG!

So hard to believe it’s been 44 years since my sister Debbie died by su***de. The obituary says “died suddenly.” Back then, we didn’t dare say su***de. Some people still steer clear of using the word.

I was never afraid to talk about Debbie’s cause of death and I’ve tried to do my part in reducing the awful stigma associated with su***de. Today, Debbie inspires me to be accepting of others, even when they aren’t accepting of me. I wish I could have taken Debbie’s pain away. Next month, my sister would have turned 65.

Enjoy the life.

These rolling hills will always feel a little like home, even though they only were for a few college years. They’ve now wrapped my girl in their grip so they hold another piece of my heart. A quiet moment and open space allowed for a nice reset this morning and I just wanted to share the subtle details of this snapshot. What do you see or feel?

I had a beer with my 4th grade teacher last night! And it reminded me to remind every teacher out there: never underestimate the impact you made! Betty Moore sat me down in 4th grade after my sister died by su***de. She looked me in the eyes and assured me I was loved and that she would always be there for me. A moment I remain grateful for.

There used to be a big cash register on the right. A big green milkshake mixer to the left. No TV. But the walls and the counter hold sweet memories of walking across the street from the nursing home my mom ran to get fries and a chocolate shake. I can still hear the cash register and the mixer.

Happy 20th to the girl who breathed life back into me on July 14, 2004. Ella, you are a phenomenal woman. Just 10 years ago, we ran our first mile together. Now you’re adding miles to your life’s journey by land, sea and air. Your love for friends and family is cherished by those lucky enough to receive it. Your passion for music and adventure will keep you forever young. You’ll always be my Little Bug. I love you ! Thanks for making and me your parents.

I miss this woman to no end. Struggling with the reality from 20 years ago, today, that “Mom’s dead.” She unexpectedly slipped away in her sleep 7/13/04, awaiting the next day’s arrival of her second grandchild, my dear . I got the call as I tried to sneak just a few more minutes of time with before heading off to Corporate America. Losing Elaine Mary Carty rocked my world in ways I am still beginning to understand. So, I continue to grieve. I do. And despite having two of my very best friends with me at her grave this morning, my joy for all of the memories she gave me, us, is tempered today. I’d give anything to look my Mom in the eyes to tell her, “I love you. Let’s have a highball!” Aloha, Mama. 🌺🍹

Cheers to 4 years with beers in the bAckspace bucket! Four years ago, in the midst of the Covid shutdown, I took a big leap to start a business. And I have had the absolute privilege to grow with some amazing clients and partners! To each member of my crew that has been a part of this, a huge thank you. You’ve seen me at my best and my worst. - you’ve become a brother! Big props to my shopmates and for support and partnership. Thank you for believing in me and to countless local businesses we’ve helped thrive. And to those who’ve allowed us to create in your bAckspace, a big thank you! After 4 years, I find the following to be so true:

*you’ll have a lot of awful days
*if you’re not learning, you’re dying
*the unhappy ones already were
*debt is a 4-letter word, like work
*loyalty is the best framework
*desk is also a four-letter word
*respect given is respect earned
*you will bleed on every job
*listen closely to passersby
*hoverers have nothing better to do
*work smarter, not harder
*and, as Carlos says, “Enjoy The Life.”
