The one year anniversary of the release of A FIELD GUIDE TO FISHES OF THE SALISH SEA is coming up! At last year’s launch party, we chatted about the fish that occupy the Salish Sea and celebrated the publication of this comprehensive guidebook on a beautiful evening in early July. Now that this time is rolling back around, we’ve enjoyed reflecting on how much we’ve loved hearing your stories about how helpful this book has been.

Introducing Perry.
The newest Chatwin team member.
Perry will be managing employee morale–all while maintaining a pawsitive attitude. Sometimes he falls asleep on the job, but we are letting that slide.

Fun FAQ’s about Perry:

His favorite book? Sherlock Bones
His favorite artist? Andy Warhowl
His favorite movie? Jurassic Bark
His go-to breakfast? Woofles

Perry is resourceful and environmentally conscious. Not only does he find a use for everything on the floor, rather than drive himself, he chooses to carpool to work with our Print Studio Manager Dean Kelly.

Perry - we are so happy to have you on our team!

Happy Women’s History Month ❤️ At Chatwin we are proud to work with and publish fantastic female authors.

Have you checked out the Marguerite Young book we published last year?

“I am April laughing
Up and down a hill,
I am April wearing
Beauty like a frill.
Oh, for all your sighing,
You must only say,
‘She was April passing,
She could never stay.’”
- A Girl’s Song, The Collected Poems by Marguerite Young

Today we're highlighting ACROSS THE WATER & INTO THE FOREST, a series of paintings by Laura Hamje.

The Pacific Northwest has inspired Laura Hamje's oil painting since 2004. She began her career painting bridges, highways, and industrial landscapes, often from the vantage point of a fast-moving vehicle. Hamje's more recent subject matter focuses on slow, ethereal moments influenced by a deep immersion in Pacific Northwest forests and coastlines.

Across the Water & Into the Forest contains Hamje's lovely artwork inspired by the PNW as well as an interview by Dale Cotton to gain insight about the process behind her work.

You can come see her beautiful paintings for yourself at our gallery and pick up a copy in person, or you can order from www.chatwinbooks.com!

Out now! A QUIET PLACE TO LAND by Rex Wilder.

Recently released from the hospital that treated him through a mental collapse, award-winning poet and photographer Rex Wilder began going for daily walks around California’s Venice canals. It was on these walks that he started photographing birds and experimenting with digital overpainting as a tool to reimagine his photographs. This process helped recharge his spiritual battery and pave a path to mental wellness.

A Quiet Place to Land is a collection of these reimagined photographs paired with Rex’s lyrical, earnest reflections.

We hope this book provides you with a moment of solace, to sit and observe beauty. Sometimes a moment is enough.

A bit more about the book...

In the dead of winter, during a period of extreme personal sadness and loss, photographer Philip Blair embarked on a solo road trip through Washington, Oregon and northern Nevada. This would become not only a tour of surreal beauty and snow-covered landscapes, but an extreme mind-travel expedition. His solitude would allow him the time and space to assess what was important, and what was not. The act of photographing and journaling his experiences led to a personal transformation.
