In the very first issue of Pagany (Winter 1930), William Carlos Williams offers an essay on Gertrude Stein, demonstrating how her sense of rhythm and play is anticipated by Laurence Sterne.

It was reprinted in A Return to Pagany, edited by Stephen Halpert with assistance from Pagany editor Richard Johns, who died a year after its publication in 1969.

You may notice a few familiar names on the cover of Pagany Vol. 1, No. 1, including Kathleen Tankersley Young. I bought this set of Pagany looking for missing works by Emanuel Carnevali, and it was in this edition that I first came across Young's name and work. 18 obsessive months later, we wound up with The Collected Works of Kathleen Tankersley Young. (And several more months for the same of Emanuel Carnevali.)

Hi all! We're going to be spending some more time here in an effort to reach new people and have different kinds of conversations. We'll be doing the usual book promo, but also showing off a bit more of the behind-the-scenes working of the press, talking about our process, and sharing some of the rare/cool books that come across our desks!
