Juneteenth is a significant day that commemorates the long-awaited freedom of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. It's a reminder of the resilience and determination of those who fought for their emancipation. On this day, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the news finally reached the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans in Galveston. At the Wilkes Barre NAACP Juneteenth cookout yesterday, the atmosphere was filled with joy, unity, and celebration. The community came together to honor this historic milestone, and we were fortunate to witness the vibrant spirit of the event. 🙌 The cookout featured a mouthwatering array of food, from delicious barbecue to spicy mango on a stick. The air was filled with the captivating sounds of music, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gathering. 🎶🎵 In addition to the fantastic cuisine and uplifting melodies, the event showcased talented poets who shared their powerful words, inspiring everyone with their creativity and resilience. 📜✍️ The spoken word performances touched our hearts and ignited our passion for justice and equality.
