The Citizen-Times

The Citizen-Times Allen County's Hometown Newspaper for Over A Century Allen County's hometown newspaper since 1890 and is part of the Jobe Publishing, Inc. news network.

Jobe Publishing Inc. (JPI) was formed by Don Lorenz and Jeff Jobe on February 1, 1998 with the purchase of The Butler County Banner-Green River Republican community newspaper. Lorenz was a successful entrepreneur and business owner while Jobe had traveled the US working for large corporate owned newspapers. The small newspaper had served the Morgantown, Kentucky community since 1865. In 2003, the

family chose to buy the full newspaper operation of AC Wilson called Cave Country Newspapers, Inc. The purchase included real estate, four newspapers, and a printing facility. There were lean years and this time was focused on survival and eliminating company debt; all debt assumed and stock purchased by Jeff Jobe in 2007. Jobe has since then purchased three Patsy Judd newspapers, the Bill Canty newspaper and Matt Pedigo’s newspaper making the company the largest family owned newspaper company in Kentucky. Jobe runs an aggressive news and marketing operation that has lead them to eliminate competition because few understand the foundation has always been truth; which at times is difficult and not popular. serves communities with offices in Morgantown, Edmonton, Brownsville, Burkesville, Russell Springs, Horse Cave, Scottsville and Glasgow. Each maintain their own local news operations and are combined for regional marketing opportunities. Find us online at www.jobeforkentucky.com

In 2003 a Kentucky Law passed (KRS 189.930) to require motorist to “slow down or move over” on a Kentucky roadway when a stopped emergency vehicle, tow truck, or construction vehicle is stopped on the side of the roadway in the same direction.

July 15, 2024 the same law was expanded to require passing motorist to “slow down or move over” for ANY stopped vehicle on the highway when passing in the same direction when the stopped vehicle displays some type of warning signal (flashers, flares, reflectors) etc.

In Kentucky alone there were 32 reported deaths in crashes between 2019 and 2024, involving individuals leaving or approaching their vehicles while stopped on Kentucky roadways.

August 1st - August 15th the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is launching a campaign for the “Move Over Initiatve.”

If you see a stopped vehicle on the highway in the same direction, signal and move to the opposite lane when safe to do so. If you cannot “move over” slow your vehicle and proceed through the hazard area.
