On January 24, Mark Sublette will honor Maynard Dixon with a special event at the recently opened Maynard Dixon and Native American Art Museum in Tucson, Arizona to commemorate what would have been Dixon’s 150th birthday. Born on January 24, 1875, Dixon is often considered the grandfather of Western modernism and today his work has influenced countless painters and sculptors that came after him, including many that are still active today. Dixon was born in California and has a strong connection to the state, including his involvement in helping choose the famous color of the Golden Gate Bridge.

For his forthcoming solo show Fine Art gallery in Scottdale, Arizona, David Frederick Riley aims to have the spirit of his paintings reach out to the viewer and interact. The show, titled Supranatural, features 10 new wildlife paintings that combine realistic, portrait-based scenes with abstracted backgrounds.

Traveling through the great Southwest in the early 1970s, Steve Hastings Art discovered the paintings of Georgia O’Keeffe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born in Munich, Germany, the artist naturally studied the great European masters and found himself channeling the zeitgeist of his mentors into a love for the
