The Scottsbluff Fire Department is proud to announce the process for getting a smoke or carbon monoxide detector is now easier!

By clicking the link below, you'll be directed to our website where we have a quick and easy form to fill out. Once completed, that form will be sent to our Fire Prevention Office for fulfillment. As part of this program, if you're within the Scottsbluff Fire District, our firefighters will come and install these detectors if you need!

Roughly 3 out of 5 fire deaths happen in homes with either no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms, and more than 38% of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms are present. The importance of smoke detectors cannot be understated. If you or someone you know would benefit from this program, please sign up today!

Thanks to generous donations from local retailers, we have plenty of smoke detectors for this program. The Scottsbluff Professional Firefighters Local 1454 also maintain a Detector Fund to ensure those in need will have these life saving devices.

2024 was the most dangerous year on record for Americans being killed by police. 2023 was previously the record holder with 1,232 but 2024 eclipsed that number by 19 more deaths.

There were only 13 days in the entire year police didn't kill anyone.

New Mexico saw the highest rate in the nation for people killed by police in 2024.

Albuquerque Police killed people at the highest rate in 2024.

18% of the 1,251 deaths began with traffic stops and mental health checks.

33% of people killed were running away, driving away or trying to flee.

Killings by Sheriff's departments made up 31% of all deaths in 2024.

98.1% of killings by police from 2013-2023 have not resulted in officers being charged with a crime.

Only 66 officers were killed in the line of duty. Up 10 from 2023.

Those deaths were:

Assault: 4
Gunfire: 49
Stabbed: 2
Vehicular assault: 11

Now compare that to the UK where only 2 people were killed by police fatal shootings and 24 deaths were in police custody.

I have not posted anything since the election. I took a brief break from social media. It's nice to unplug occasionally and focus on family. I have launched the Working Class Heroes Fund that is designed to help regular working people run for office in their states and districts to get a seat at the table. Our Congress needs to be a reflection of its people. Currently it is not.

It is my hope that the incoming administration will be a voice for the working class, but until the day comes where the government passes the PRO Act and adds protections for our paychecks we will continue to stand up and fight corporate greed. We are seeing it play out time and time again where workers are fed up with the record profits of these huge multinational corporations while trying to take from the very same workers that made those profits possible.

Milkbone, a brand we all know and our dogs love, is owned by Smuckers that boasted $8 billion in sales. The brave BCTGM workers have shut down the factory and are in a fight for their livelihoods. They are on the picket line in the middle of a tough Buffalo winter. I proudly stand with them and support their efforts in their fight to preserve their wages and benefits at a time where inflation affects the working person exponentially more than the CEO’s and board members who make the decisions to take from their employees. I’m including a link to donate to the workers who need our help to put food on their tables while they stand up to corporate greed: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-milkbone-workers-on-strike

Thank you.
