"The solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord will fall in 2022 on March 25 — a Friday during Lent.

It is quite clear that Catholics are ordinarily obliged to abstain from meat on Lenten Fridays, but they can eat meat that day, March 25, because of the solemnity." -The Pillar Catholic

The Chosen Podcast is BACK!

We can often expect God to communicate His presence in very grand ways: a burning bush, parting sea, or pillar of cloud. But more times than not, God chooses the simple, quiet, and seemingly ordinary moments of daily life to communicate His love. Chosen, a Region Catholic Production, spends time each week reflecting on the ways God shows us his love and how to best respond.

“Knowing by experience St. Joseph’s astonishing influence with God, I would wish to persuade everyone to honor him with particular devotion. I have always seen those who honored him in a special manner make progress in virtue, for this heavenly protector favors in a striking manner the spiritual advancement of souls who commend themselves to him.”

-St. Teresa of Avila

In this year of St. Joseph, may we learn from his virtue and pray for his intercession in our own lives.

On this Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, let us reflect on today's Gospel passage from Luke:

"

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child
she gave birth to a son.
Her neighbors and relatives heard
that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her,
and they rejoiced with her.
When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father,
but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.” But they answered her, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,”
and all were amazed.Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.

The child grew and became strong in spirit,
and he was in the desert until the day
of his manifestation to Israel."

Luke 1:57-66, 80

Take a minute to pray with today's Gospel passage from the gospel of Matthew:

"Jesus said to his disciples:

“Stop judging, that you may not be judged. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.”

A new BONUS episode of the chosen is up!

The call to serve the poor is one that comes directly from Jesus himself. Those who are missionaries with Christ in the City have answered that call in a very unique and real way. While working in Michigan City, IN this summer, Fr. Jacob and Adam got to spend some time with two of those people, hear their stories, and learn more about this unique ministry to the poor. Learn to see the homeless in a new way and get some ideas on how to truly "encounter" everyone you meet.

New episode is up!

Roman Catholic Bishops claim direct descendance from the Apostles themselves, as the Catholic Church promises to have apostolic authority. This week, Adam and Fr. Jacob sit down with Bishop Robert McClory, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, IN, to learn more about leadership, what leadership modeled after Jesus Christ has to look like, and what seems to be missing from our world today in terms of leadership. You won't wont want to miss it!

A new episode of Chosen to start the Monday off right!

In our current world, authority is seen as something to be avoided and maybe even something to disassemble. However, the Catholic Church is known for her hierarchical structure of different authority entrusted to its ranks. Was this intended by Jesus? If so, what is the advantage? Join Fr. Jacob and Adam as they explore the idea of authority, and why someone being in charge is not really that bad.
