Good morning, or rather what is left if it.

We are looking for pictures of trunk-or-treats and other fall festivities that have happened in the last week and over the last weekend.

Either message the page or email [email protected].

IMPORTANT: please include the event name and date it took place.

Additionally, if you are like my in-laws and go whole hog on decorating for Halloween, we would love to feature one or two homes in the paper as well. Please include family name and maybe a little blurb.

Thank you.

From the 10-17-24 Savannah Reporter.

My first week as the Production Planning Specialist for the Savannah Reporter is in the books.
I definitely learned a lot–especially with how I was thrown into the fires within the furnace we call production deadlines.
I have heard as much concern as I have good when it came to CherryRoad Media’s first Savannah Reporter last week.
I would like to remind those that did and tell those that did not read my column last week what the situation is.
The Savannah Reporter was recently acquired by CherryRoad Media, a company that has done their best to save small town newspapers all over the U.S. In fact, they saved my own hometown newspaper in Dodge City, Kan. and it thrives better than ever.
I was also hired by CherryRoad around the same time as the Production Planning Specialist. To break down what I do in two words, that means I am the remote editor of the Savannah Reporter.
Remote, because I currently live in Hutchinson, Kan. with my wife and son.
My wife was recently promoted at her job as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and her current hours work for our family dynamic really well in regards to our son. I would be a horrible husband to take that time with our son away from the woman who gave up quite a bit for my career without a second thought.
I am stalwart when it comes to supporting my wife, and CherryRoad and I will be stalwart in supporting our new remote community from where I am now.
That said, we understand a lot of people were concerned about CherryRoad’s first edition of the Savannah Reporter.
I will assure you, it will get better and if we play our cards right, it will get better quickly.
For example, we are working on hiring an office manager who will be available locally and will be in constant contact with me regarding your needs, ideas and wants. We are also ironing out a carrier issue. We know a lot of people were upset that they could not find their newspaper in their local stores.
There are a lot of moving parts as we acclimate to our new coverage umbrella and the communities under it.
Our goal is to put out a community-driven newspaper that people trust and look forward to every week.
While things may be a little rocky right now, they will smooth out as we continue to be loyal to you and hopefully as you continue to be loyal to us.
We cannot have a community newspaper without you.
This is quite the community! I spent the last week speaking to several local people a day over the phone just so I can maybe see a glimmer of your town through citizen eyes.
I enjoyed the passion as well as the vocal need for a community newspaper.
The Savannah Reporter is still your newspaper.
To that end, I encourage you to think of me, despite the few hundred miles, as an editor no different than if I was physically present in your community.
Please submit your story ideas, press releases, and events to [email protected].
I am very interested in any Halloween events happening in our service communities.

Update on circulation!

There was a miscommunication with our printers regarding last week's edition.

That has been fixed, I just got off the phone with circulation and they said that physical papers for purchase should be available in their normal storefronts and stands tomorrow.

For circulation questions, email [email protected].

As for the website. The current 10-17-24 edition will be available at the current site tomorrow.

Eventually, we will be undergoing website changes, but we will let you know when that happens.

Finally, we are training someone to work in the office. Details soon.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Halloween is upon us and I am sure in Savannah and the surrounding communities there are various trick-or-treat and other Halloween or fall events.

Please share those events by either emailing [email protected] or by messaging our page.

We would like to get an article out for next week's paper, 10-24-24, to inform people and families where those events are going to be. Perfectly ahead of Halloween. Halloween is also the last October 2024 paper, so we would appreciate fun and festive community pictures to share in the 10-31-24 edition.

Again, please share to [email protected] or message the page.

Thank you!

From the 10/10/24 Savannah Reporter.

I am sure there have been talks within the community about what is happening with the Savannah Reporter.
The Savannah Reporter was recently acquired by CherryRoad Media, a growing publisher dedicated to keeping local news alive in real communities with real people.
I am also a recent acquirement by CherryRoad.
My name is Judd Weil and I have been working in the fourth estate for over seven years with a history in community journalism via print and radio.
The latest chapter in my life is as the Production Planning Specialist of the Savannah Reporter.
Essentially, what that means is that I am the remote editor of the Savannah Reporter.
The key word being "remote" because I live in Hutchinson, Kansas with my wife, a 9-1-1 dispatcher, and our son, currently professional toddler.
Though I do not physically reside within the community of Savannah that does not diminish the importance of your community to me.
My role with the Savannah Reporter is as if you were able to reach an editor in town, minus walking in the building and seeing me.
This means you are free to email me or even call me with your story ideas and submissions.
I have experience putting together a newspaper remotely so I encourage you to put your trust in me to deliver local news you can trust.
This is not going to be an easy transition process, and the Savannah Reporter will change in some ways that I hope you will find positive.
CherryRoad Media acquired the publication rather suddenly, so we are all working with a lot of moving parts.
Regardless, the final result will be a community-driven newspaper telling real stories about real people for real people.
To me, that is smalltown journalism.
I hope you all agree with me and will stay loyal as the Savannah Reporter evolves.
To that end, I encourage everyone from county and city governments and associating agencies, school districts and local businesses and all community members to refer to my contact information below.
I look forward to your continued partnership to bring you a quality publication each week.
