EVER WANTED TO OPEN YOUR OWN KILLER INDIE RECORD STORE?

NOW YOU CAN, FOR DIRT CHEAP.

*** IF YOU CAN BUY THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF MINE IN THE NEXT FOUR DAYS. ***

What's up:
For the better part of about 30 years, I collected a ridiculous amount of music, movie, concert and pop culture media and ephemera. As much as I could with my meager finances. The overwhelming majority of which was intended to stock the full-service, all-genre, super-cool, brick-and-mortar indie record store I never got up the nerve to open.

Several years ago, I knew I’d lost my passion for that venture, but I was too emotionally connected with all that awesome stuff to simply sell it off piece by piece on eBay (which would have been smart).

Now, I am dealing with a SERIOUS FAMILY EMERGENCY which REQUIRES that I get rid of ALL THE EXTRA BAGGAGE IN MY LIFE, including the complete contents of my long-planned record store.
IN FACT, EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT HAS TO BE SOLD AND MOVED FROM THE TWO CLIMATE-CONTROLLED STORAGE UNITS WHERE IT’S BEEN KEPT SAFE AND SOUND FOR DECADES – BY 4PM THIS UPCOMING MONDAY, JUNE 3.

That’s correct, I need it out of my life IN FOUR DAYS’ TIME.

So, I am ONLY selling it all in ONE GIGANTIC LOT (for Cash or a Cashier’s Check), but at a RIDICULOUS DISCOUNT.

My loss is literally someone’s gain. Perhaps that someone is you, or a friend of yours?

Or a group of friends who want to all chip in and buy the whole lot together and then divide it up later on?

This will be an INSTANT, IMPRESSIVE INVENTORY ranging from relatively inexpensive impulse buys (you could sell for between $3 and $8 each) which are perfect for a brick-and-mortar location, to rare and valuable items (that are currently going for anywhere between $30 and $300) that can also appeal to international customers via eBay, GEMM, Etsy or your own online store.

It's a really huge task just to figure out what's even IN my archive, because I had not looked through it carefully in more than a decade. But, over the past few days I have been repeatedly AMAZED at the CRAZY COOL S**T I FORGOT I EVEN OWNED, because it has been boxed up safely for so long.

Let’s just talk about the vinyl for a moment:

Imports, picture disks, long out-of-print oddities that have NEVER shown up on CD or streaming services, limited-edition illegal bootlegs (fewer than 500 ever pressed worldwide), boxed-sets, jazz, indie-rock, worldbeat, soundtracks, metal, blues, punk, avant-garde, hilariously inappropriate privately-pressed gospel records, goth, exotica, easy listening, children's albums, R&B, folk, psych, garage, rockabilly, reggae, ska, forgotten singer-songwriters, X-***ed black comedy, old-school + outlaw country, spoken-word, privately-pressed Le***an country records from the 1970s (no, seriously, that was a thing), ultra-obscure funk/soul/jazz wax just begging to be sampled for hip-hop tracks, you name it.

ALL FORMATS, from vintage vinyl (of all sizes and speeds) to cassette, CD to 8-Track, and videos from the old “Big Box” VHS to Laserdisc (!) to DVD. All of those in both opened/used condition as well as sealed and unplayed.

Plus, new/unread and used books about all sorts of music, valuable, OOP back issues of a wide variety of music and record collecting magazines like Goldmine, Rolling Stone, Spin, Musician, Option, Alternative Press, DISCoveries and more.

Plus rare record label promo posters, commercially available posters from decades past, original concert posters and band flyers, and HUGE, never-hung British subway posters from the 1980s and early 1990s (only a few hundred of each ever made) promoting REM, David Bowie and more. Even a few original, first-release one-sheet movie posters (like one for the 1984 Talking Heads concert film “STOP MAKING SENSE” that’s currently going for as much as $500 online).

A lot of this stuff is fairly esoteric and special-interest in nature, but even more of it is geared toward mainstream customers and entry-level enthusiasts/crate diggers.

Oh, did I mention this massive lot INCLUDES THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS’ WORTH OF ORIGINAL STORE FIXTURES, SHELVES AND RACKS FROM THE OLD BLOCKBUSTER AND TURTLES RECORDS & TAPES CHAINS, ready to be set up and used in your retail location?

BECAUSE OF THIS TIME-SENSITIVE FAMILY MATTER, AND THE FACT THAT ALL OF THIS MUST BE SOLD AND MOVED OUT OF THESE STORAGE UNITS BY THIS COMING MONDAY AFTERNOON, I WILL ONLY SELL EVERYTHING TOGETHER AT ONCE to one single buyer at a Wholesale Discount Rate.

Anyone who is SERIOUSLY interested in potentially buying the ENTIRE collection needs to send me a PM here on Facebook NOW, or TEXT ME ON MY CELL (I don’t pick up unknown numbers) ASAP at (912) 656-6904 to discuss the details and how and when to meet, so they can get a look at the inventory and hopefully make a deal.

PLEASE DON’T ASK ME TO BREAK UP THE LOT AT ALL.

I CAN’T JUST SELL THE VINYL, OR JUST THE CDs, OR JUST THE POSTERS, OR JUST THE BOOKS, OR JUST THE RETAIL SHELVING. I SIMPLY CAN’T DO IT.

This is an opportunity for someone to get an AMAZINGLY CHEAP DEAL on TONS OF VALUABLE MERCHANDISE, but THEY MUST BUY AND TAKE ALL OF IT AT ONCE.

Once they own it, they may wish to divide it up and sell off the parts they don’t want or need. They’ll be getting it all so cheap they might MAKE A KILLING from doing so. But that’s for someone with the time and the inclination. I no longer have either.

Feel free to SHARE THIS POST with anyone across the USA you think would be seriously interested in this opportunity -- ESPECIALLY folks who ALREADY OWN A RECORD STORE and want to BOOST THEIR EXISTING SELECTION MASSIVELY OVERNIGHT.

If they live outside of our region, they’ll just have to make arrangements to pay in advance and arrive here in time to take the stuff and go by Monday, June 3 at 4PM.

Packed carefully, everything should fit into ONE LARGE BOX TRUCK.

YOU ARE ALSO WELCOME TO SIMPLY MOVE THE CONTENTS OF MY STORAGE UNITS TO ANOTHER NEARBY UNIT IN THE SAME COMPLEX ONCE YOU PURCHASE EVERYTHING. BUT THE COMPANY HAS OTHER PLANS FOR THE ROOMS MY COLLECTION IS CURRENTLY IN, SO IT UNFORTUNATELY CAN’T JUST STAY RIGHT WHERE IT’S AT.

With two people and a heavy-duty hand-truck (which I’ll throw in for free), moving everything to a new unit could be accomplished in less than two hours, if they hustle.

I HAVE MADE A COUPLE OF VIDEOS TO GIVE FOLKS A CLEAR IDEA OF THE SCOPE AND VARIETY OF THE TOTALITY OF THE INVENTORY. THEY WON’T HAVE THE TIME OR THE ROOM TO GO THROUGH EVERY SINGLE PIECE, AND FOR THAT I APOLOGIZE. THAT’S WHY I AM SELLING EVERYTHING SO CHEAPLY – BECAUSE PURCHASING THIS ENTIRE LOT ON SUCH A TIGHT DEADLINE REQUIRES A BIT OF A LEAP OF FAITH ON THE BUYER’S PART.

NOTE: The vinyl video is 40 min. long, so once I start flipping through the albums, I recommend speeding up the playback on YouTube to 1.75 to save time.

FEEL FREE TO SHARE THE VIDEOS AS WELL. IF I HAVE TIME, I’LL MAKE AND POST SOME MORE, WITH ADDITIONAL DETAILS AND LOOKS AT OTHER ASPECTS OF THE COLLECTION.

Your time and interest in reading all of this is greatly appreciated.

I hope this stuff goes to a good home, and that someone enjoys it, and/or makes a ton of money from it!

THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF MY FAMILY.

~ Jim Reed

What? I've just released the second episode of the Wicked Messenger Radio Show?

YES.

Music and music history?

YES.

It's 100% Power-Pop (both well-known tracks and rarities and obscurities by famous acts and little-known ones), and it's just for Premium Tier subscribers to my new website / newsletter.

Stream it whenever you want, along with the first episode, every episode thereafter, plus our new Podcast (which debuts in June), and all sorts of written articles and interviews -- all delivered right to your inbox.

Here's what one of our supporters had to say about episode #1:

"Love the subscriber newsletters, BUT the radio show!!!

L-O-V-I-N-G IT! For anyone who is not subscribed, this alone is well worth your contribution in supporting what Jim is doing.

Don't have time to do your own music digging, but appreciate the weird, eclectic, avant-garde, and the ability to have a discussion in your own head about whether you like or dislike a particular tune, and then immediately after, hear something so 180 (degrees) and delicious, interspersed with Jim’s wonderful storytelling and vast knowledge of fact?

You’re missing out on a great creative and entertaining endeavor."

Thanks, Jen MacGregor!

Dig it, folks.

Some of you know that I have been both very preoccupied and rather emotionally raw for quite some time now.

It would not be an exaggeration to say my mind has often been elsewhere, and I have been distracted from my work and my responsibilities of late.

Much of that has to do with the heavy weight of helping to oversee certain aspects of caring for and assisting my dear friend and longtime musical collaborator Greg Williams - Songwriter, as he navigated increasingly debilitating health issues.

An extremely tight-knit group of his closest friends and family members have been quietly doing their level best to be there for him as he struggled mightily against increasingly overwhelming odds.

Eventually, it became clear that Greg's injuries were insurmountable, and while it upsets me greatly to say that he passed away peacefully at 9:45 am this morning, after a little over a week in hospice care, I am heartened to know that he is no longer in the physical and emotional pain which has plagued him for the past five months.

Greg could be a difficult, stubborn, cantankerous, and volatile character. But he was -- without a doubt -- one of the greatest rock, pop, blues, and country songwriters this area has ever produced, as well as a tremendously talented guitarist anf one of the finest vocalists I have ever had the pleasure to hear up close and personal, and to work with in a creative, collaborative fashion.

Greg and I gigged together, made records together, laughed together, cried together, published a book of poetry together, and -- more than once throughout the 35 years I knew him -- screamed at each other till we were both red in the face.

I will miss him more than I can express, but I am glad he is finally at peace. Because he never once was, from the day we met until today.

More than anything, I will mourn the loss of his singular voice. Not just his beautiful singing voice, but his creative, lyrical voice.

There will be no more new "Greg Williams songs" in the world.

And, no matter what people may have thought of him as a friend, relative, neighbor, or business associate, I can only imagine that anyone with even a cursory knowledge of his skills and abilities as a tunesmith would have to agree that is a true shame.

One of the most unique, gifted, sincere, and mesmerizing artists I have ever had the pleasure to know (and spend some precious bits of time with over the years) has moved on.

Malcolm Holcombe was one of the finest traditional songwriters and one of the most intense live performers this wicked world has seen. If you were one of the relatively few souls on the globe who got to experience his creative genius -- and I do not use that word lightly -- up close and in the flesh, consider yourself extraordinarily lucky.

If you were not able to be in the same room with Brother Malcolm and bear witness to his gifts, more's the pity.

However, there are albums of his you can buy, and video evidence of his mastery which you can view. And believe me when I say that you should absolutely do both of those things as quickly and as frequently as possible.

My heart goes out wholly to his wife Cyndi, who has been steadfastly by his side through some very trying times, and aided him immensely in getting his words and music out to the people. She is a gem of a person.

I am told of late that Facebook throttles the posts folks make which have videos attached to them, and that as a result, were I to attach a video to this post, it would not automatically appear in the feeds of the vast majority of my friends and followers on this platform.

So, in a comment below, I am including that link.

I do so hope you will all take a few moments out of your life and bear witness to a short, stunning clip which -- to my mind, at least -- amply demonstrates the magnitude of this loss.

Here's to you, Malcolm.

I was truly honored by the kindness and friendship you showed me when we were in each other's company, and I very much wish we had been able to spend much more time together over the years.

Your tenacity, your fortitude and your volcanic creativity were -- and remain -- a wellspring of inspiration to me, and I will miss you more than I can properly express.

This shirt belonged to Keith Kozel. It brings me some measure of joy to know it is still in good use (and hopefully good hands).

He won't be around physically to see the architectural design work of our compatriot Kevin F. Rose come to fruition after so long, but he will certainly be in the building on a regular basis.

Fake Fangs Records salutes Keith Kozel on today, his birthday. His unique legacy of amazing songs, recordings, live performances and illustrative artwork remains a beacon to many around the world, a year after his untimely demise.

We miss our friend, co-conspirator, and musical collaborator.

It's a massive loss.

Some of his music can be heard and purchased at superhorse.bandcamp.com.

Maybe you will find something you like there.
