The historic Colson Hotel has been saved! 🏛️

Built in 1926, this Rosemary District landmark wasn't just a hotel - it was a sanctuary for Black travelers during segregation and a cornerstone of Sarasota's history. Through community collaboration and partnership, this vital piece of our heritage will be preserved for generations to come.

Recently slated for demolition to make way for new townhomes, the historic hotel in the Rosemary District has officially been saved.

This Sunday: Celebrate Oktoberfest - The Bay style! 🎉🍻🥨

In celebration of German-American day, come to The Bay for live music, brews, brats, games and more! 🇩🇪

🎶The DeLeon Family Band returns to The Bay to perform traditional "oompah"-style and a range of other music.
Make sure to be a part of the world-famous "Chicken Dance" tradition. Or, compete in the ever-popular Steinhoisting contest. Or, challenge those you know (or perhaps, those you don't know) to a mean game of co****le.

🍺🥨The Nest Café frigs will be stocked full of must-try German-inspired and locally crafted brews (Guinness, 3 Daughters Oktoberfest and Sam Adam Oktoberfest & more) and will be serving tasty brats and soft pretzel sticks with beer cheese.

🌳✨ Overtown Square is officially OPEN! ✨🌳
Wow, what an AMAZING day celebrating with our incredible RADD community! 🎉 The turnout was beyond our wildest expectations, and we are so grateful to everyone who came to support this special moment.

This park is more than just green space—it's a tribute to the rich history of Sarasota’s first Black neighborhood, Overtown, and it’s here for everyone to enjoy. We can’t wait to see Overtown Square become a cherished gathering place for neighbors, artists, and families alike.

A huge thank you to the City of Sarasota and the entire Rosemary District for making this day unforgettable!

Built in 1925, the Colson Hotel stands as a testament to Sarasota's African-American resilience. After a year of negotiations, we've made progress in preserving this landmark, with support from the City of Sarasota.
