The day is almost here. Award winning pizza chef Cesare Di Iorio plans to open Trattoriabellanapoli next week. As you may recall from our post in March, took 2nd place in the Neapolitan Pizza world championship at Pizza Expo in Orlando last year. Casare (p**n: tʃeːzare) and his wife will be serving up an extensive menu of authentic Neapolitan pizzas, from their brand-new Italian pizza oven, just installed behind the wine bar, on Main Street in the space that was most recently Ama La Vita Italian restaurant. Cesare, who was slinging dough as pizzaiolo at Osteria 500 in Waterside Place, tells us he plans to announce a night of sampling his pizza before the anticipated official opening on the 17th. The restaurant will then be open Tuesday - Sunday. Besides pizza, there will be some traditional Italian pasta dishes and other specials.
UPDATE: Trattoria Bela Napoli has announced the grand opening for Sunday from 6 pm to 9 pm with free food samples.

New owners taking over an Indian restaurant, and a few recent items from the Thanksgiving holiday period.

According to documents filed with the State of Florida, Tikka Indian Cuisine is taking over the recently closed Royal Peacock Indian Kitchen on Fruitville Road. As you may recall from our earlier posts, Tikka previously took over the Curry Station on Beneva and opened Spice Indian Cuisine there. In this case, according to the Plan Review application, the popular Venice, FL Indian restaurant will brand it with their Tikka name. We'll update when we have an opening date.

As you may have seen by now. Tommy Bahama is moving from their previous St. Armands location to the recently closed Shore St. Armands space. Although they had started emergency repairs to their John Ringling Blvd. original spot they have instead decided to relocate the restaurant. Shore closed Dec. 1.

Crab & Fin Restaurant had hoped to be open by now. When I stopped by before Thanksgiving, they had done much of the interior work and had replaced the landscaping. Unfortunately, equipment deliveries have delayed their reopening. It should be happening next week. Photos on their page show some of the renovations.

Another long-time Sarasota restaurant has closed, and will soon reopen in a new spot. Page followers may recall our posts about The Toasted Mango plans to open a new location in the Rosemary District. Construction is underway there and they plan to open in March. They will join the already open Great Heights Creamery and the soon to open new location for Origin Craft Beer & Pizza.

ICYMI, a couple of new restaurants have opened that we previously mentioned. Over the holiday, they might have been missed. has opened on Osprey Ave. The Cajun restaurant is in the former Osteria Southside space. Ed Zaki from 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails is there, along with Chef Mark Majorie. See our group page for the menu and a couple of food photos.

Kyuramen has opened on the North Trail. The ramen and bubble tea spot is in the former Antojitos Cuban Cuisine spot may be best known as the original spot for Yummy House. They haven't responded to any FB or IG messages and food photos appear to be from the chain's other locations.

Although delayed by a few weeks from the November 1st opening date in our August 12 post, Lucky 8 Luncheonette, a Cajun and Creole themed restaurant, is shooting for a Tuesday opening next week. Lucky 8 will be Chef Mark Majorie's first foray into ownership in his 25-year restaurant career. Mark will be in partnership with Ed Zaki, of 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails. (The photo of Mark is from the recent All Faiths Food Bank Bowls of Hope event, where he and Ed were volunteering and serving soup from Ed's 1592 restaurant.) From an earlier news release, "Mark has worked in some of the best restaurants and luxury hotels in New Orleans, Miami, Sarasota, and Trinidad. Mark’s family heritage is Sicilian and Creole French. Mark was born in New Orleans, and grew up next to his mother's stove, eating the classic Louisiana fare such as gumbo, jambalaya, and étouffée, absorbing everything like a sponge.
"Mark’s style is considered globally inspired, but He has base training is classic French. Mark specializes in southern creole cuisine but holds a strong passion for several cuisines (Italian, Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Thai) to name a few.
"In 2016 Mark moved from New Orleans to Sarasota, FL to open the highly successful upscale oyster bar, Veronica in southside village. As the Executive Chef for the past eight years Mark has garnered countless accolades and awards including Best Seafood Restaurant (2018-2023), and Best New Restaurant (2017)."

Casa Masa has received their Florida restaurant license for their new location.
Casa Masa which was previously called Island House Taqueria and advertises themselves as a "Oaxacan inspired Taqueria" on Bee Ridge Road, is reportedly moving to the Shop The Landings center on South Tamiami Trail. According to a pending zoning application with Sarasota County, for liquor license approval, the 2,032 sq. ft. former ice cream shop space will have about 40 seats inside and more than 80 seats outside. Mostly in the breezeway between them and Tripletail. Besides the exterior bar window (pictured), a new bar and some banquette seating has been built inside the space that once housed a Subway franchise. No word yet on when they will move to their new home, following their initial food licensing inspection Nov. 15. As of this post, we haven't received a reply to Facebook messages sent to Casa Masa for further details on plans for the new location.

A new Brazilian steakhouse is opening in South Sarasota.
Samba Brazilian Steakhouse is getting ready to open in the former Pietro's spot on South Tamiami Trail. Plans are also in the works to take over the storefront next door, and they plan to have enough seats to qualify for a full liquor license. This will be a fully served steakhouse, and the rodizio style "gaucho" service will not be offered daily. They hope to open sometime in early to mid December, as they are awaiting delivery of some equipment and have received their Florida restaurant license. The interior has been fully renovated to an upscale, modern look, from the previous Italian and Russian restaurants that have occupied the space. Plans are also in the works to expand the sidewalk and front patio area for outside dining.

ICYMI, the Jersey Mike's Subs in Pelican Plaza, in the Vamo area of Sarasota, FL, has closed. Before it opened, there was a "Coming Soon" sign up for what seemed like a year. And that location closed after just about 1 year in operation. Not to worry, the store count in Sarasota for Mike's Way fans won't change, as a new Jersey Mike's is coming to Nokomis (or North Venice depending on your POV). There is one under construction in the Publix plaza just west of I-75 on Laurel Rd.

Some Sarasota pizza and Italian restaurant news, a craft beer festival, and don't forget to make your Thanksgiving dinner reservations.

Fans of Tralia pizza in Gulf Gate will be happy to know, Chef Anthony Petralia has left St. Regis Longboat Key and is back in hood getting ready to reopen. Anthony has taken over the former Screaming Goat Taqueria space and is turning it into the new expanded Tralia restaurant and bar. In addition to his Detroit style pies, thanks to having a full kitchen, Anthony will be able to offer full Italian dinners and pasta. In addition to the restaurant, Anthony tells us he is going to apply for a Florida SFS alcohol license. The change to Florida law last year allowed smaller restaurants, (2,000 sq ft and 120 seats) to qualify for a full liquor license. Good luck, Anthony!

Some more good news on Siesta Key restaurants reopening.
Village Cafe is reopening tomorrow (Wednesday). The Siesta Village breakfast and lunch staple, like many on the Key, had to replace kitchen equipment and repair and clean the interior of the restaurant. Welcome back, Tommy and Kay.
ICYMI, Olaf's Siesta Village has reopened and is serving up ice cream and sweets.
Another Village favorite, Lobster Pot Restaurant says they hope to be back open the end of next week.
Along with previously reported reopenings in the Old Stickney Point Road area, Captain Curt's Crab & Oyster Bar (and Sniki Tiki) has partially reopened. While repairs continue to the "Sniki Tiki" and the main dining room, the inside bar and tiki seating are open.
Just down the street, Spearfish Grille has a new roof on their outdoor seating and is back open, too.

Only a few businesses remain closed on Siesta Key.

More than 40 of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers serve delicious soups, bread, desserts and more. Guests select beautiful, handcrafted bowls to keep – all donated by local potters, artists and students, while enjoying a modest meal as a reminder of the empty bowls they help to fill.

While many restaurants on St. Armands Circle have reopened since Hurricanes and , (see our previous post) there are a few restaurants and food outlets that will not be returning.
The owner of Madison Avenue Cafe & Deli tells us their landlord has canceled their lease, so they will not be returning.
For Lease signs have gone up on a few other places. The St. Armands Market, which some people will recall had been two different Mexican restaurants, and a Hungarian spot, is gone. Also not returning is the new 2nd location for Settimi's Gelato . Their original spot is open. Also closed is the circle location of Meaney's Mini Donuts. They have reopened their 2 Siesta Key spots, and it was nice to see a small line of people the other day at their Siesta Village spot.
Walking around the Circle it appears all other restaurants that haven't reopened are under various stages renovation, and will be back.
