A car crashed in Milwaukee and almost rolled over two people on the sidewalk. But an old out-of-service payphone slowed it down just enough that no one was seriously hurt.

An Amazon driver in Northern Ireland came to a woman's rescue while delivering a package last weekend. Her six-year-old son came outside and said, "Can you help my mom? She fainted."
She has a condition called POTS that causes fainting spells if you stand up too fast. She'd been out for about 20 minutes, but an ambulance got her to the hospital, and she's okay.

A woman in South Carolina tossed a lottery ticket in the trash after she scratched it off and thought it was a loser. But then her husband saw it in there, double-checked it, and realized they'd won $200,000. They're now shopping for their dream home

A Las Vegas woman just got her dog back nine years after he went missing. He's an 11-year-old chihuahua named Gizmo. A vet scanned his microchip and got in touch after a good Samaritan spent two months trying to catch him.
He's apparently been living on the streets for the past nine years. So he's got some health issues, but he's recovering. People online have donated over $5,000 to help cover the vet bills.

A lynx born at a zoo in Germany kept trying to escape, so they decided to just set him free. A lynx is a type of wild cat. They prepped him, so he knows how to hunt and survive in the wild. He's got a GPS tracker and seems to be doing fine so far. They released him two weeks ago.

Two years ago, a British woman named Sarah de Lagarde lost an arm and a leg in a terrible subway accident. She got run over by TWO trains. But she's not letting it hold her back. Next month, she's heading to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. She'd be the first female double prosthetic amputee to do it.

A guy in Massachusetts had a dream about buying a specific type of lottery ticket for $10. So he woke up, popped in to a 7-Eleven to buy one, and it hit for $1 MILLION.

A study found gratitude is on the rise. Feelings of thankfulness plummeted during the pandemic, but they've been rising ever since. Over half of Americans say they regularly feel grateful for stuff. A separate study earlier this month found being grateful can help you live longer.

An influencer named Ben Kilner custom built a canoe that's also a bike. And he's traveling across Scotland in it to raise money for charity. It's for a group called A Leg to Stand On that benefits kids with disabilities.

A police dog in North Carolina helped get a lost little boy home after someone spotted him walking down a road all alone this month. The kid is around six, and couldn't tell cops where he lived because he's autistic and non-verbal.
They decided to see if a bloodhound named Remi could do a "reverse K-9 track," which isn't done often. That's where they work backward and try to figure out where a person WAS instead of where they ARE.
In 15 minutes, Remi found the kid's house a half-mile away. It turned out he'd snuck out, and his parents had no idea.

New York's famous Serendipity 3 restaurant did something nice for a longtime customer this weekend. Barbara Silverstein has been going there ever since they first opened in 1954. So, 70 YEARS.
For National Ice Cream Day, they created a special dessert called the Barbara Silverstein Sundae: Three scoops of coffee ice cream with hot fudge, caramel, salted caramel crumbs, and whipped cream.

A woman in England brought a plant to work 15 years ago, and it's completely taken over her office. It's a type of ivy that never stopped growing. So it's now well over 300 feet long, and winds across the whole ceiling. She named it "Audrey 2" after the plant in "Little Shop of Horrors".

LA 14-year-old boy named Harold Teller launched Harold's Hoops for Hope, which has raised thousands of dollars for the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. It's a non-profit, where they play basketball and do other different events to raise money and awareness.
His mom says, "It's all him . . . it's everything he envisions . . . he's an honor roll student, and he plays travel ball . . . and he finds time for this somehow."

Habitat for Humanity got a team of workers from Total Roofing and Construction in Illinois to get an Air Force veteran a new roof for his home. The vet, Bruce Suggs, has been struggling ever since his 11-year-old granddaughter Jenesis was diagnosed with leukemia. But his leaky roof was fixed.
Suggs gets emotional when he talks about it, because the job could've cost around $20,000. Suggs says, "It's like winning the lottery."

Researchers at Georgia State University have found that the antibodies in LLAMAS might hold the elusive cure for HIV. A treatment that could neutralize nearly all strains of the virus would be a game-changer in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Carroll Hospital in Maryland held a goodbye celebration for a special staff member: A dog named Gryphon, who's worked as a therapy dog at this hospital for seven years. His handler said, "To see the difference he makes in the attitude of people is incredible . . . [I] can't even describe it."
Gryphon is well-known . . . he also visits libraries, schools, and special events. Now he'll spend his golden years doing his favorite activity: Swimming.


A former "nervous flyer" named Brian Morris is sharing the secret to overcoming his fear. It's basically a set of flashcards, which he's selling as something called the Flight Deck. It's meant to be CALMING by reminding people that everything that happens on an airplane is actually NORMAL.


A family in Texas was having an afternoon barbecue when they found what they thought was an orphaned barn owl on the ground with no parents nearby. It was actually a Mississippi kite, and they (literally) "wrapped it inside a warm tortilla" until some wildlife experts arrived.

A nine-year-old boy named Rivers found a lost wedding ring while looking for shark teeth in South Carolina. He showed it to his dad, and they went online and tried to figure out who it belonged to.
It turns out it was lost a YEAR ago, when a woman accidentally dropped it while wading in the water during a boating trip. She and her husband said they had lost ALL hope of it ever being found . . . and they were THRILLED that Rivers discovered it and returned it.

Could A.I. be used to prevent collisions between vehicles and deer? Two seniors at a high school in Virginia have been hard at work on a device that could steer deer away from cars. And they've received a $15,000 grant to develop it.
The system would recognize vehicles and deer through computer vision . . . and then "send out pulses and bio-sound" to turn the deer away.

A smart watch helped save a 49-year-old swimmer's life after he got stuck in rough ocean waters in Australia last weekend. He used the emergency function on the watch as he was struggling to tread water.

A nurse named Claire saved a man's life at the Charlotte airport last month, after she noticed that he was having a HEART ATTACK while they were both at the gate waiting for a flight.
She jumped into action . . . performing CPR and even using a defibrillator. The man, 57-year-old Ken Jeffries, told Claire, "I am so appreciative and indebted to you."

A child in Canada dropped a postcard to her grandma into a mailbox . . . but forgot to add the stamp. She was at a camp at the time, and one of the workers helped her put a sign on the mailbox, alerting the mailperson. And they even included a stamp with it.
The mailperson saw the sign . . . spent some time digging through all the mail to find the postcard . . . and put the stamp on it for the girl.

This should be good news: The U.S. military's extensive investments in unmanned systems could make ONE THIRD of its total size ROBOTIC in 10 to 15 years.

Patriotism doesn't stop at the Fourth of July. An ice cream shop in Massachusetts called Eskimo King is offering free ice cream to kids who can recite the Pledge of Allegiance . . . and it's happening throughout the month.
Kids can choose a cone of vanilla . . . chocolate twist . . . and if they want, one with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Two orphaned puppies found a new family with a CAT and her kitten at a shelter in Texas. The puppies were born at the shelter, but unfortunately the mother passed away . . . they're not sure what happened.
Someone from the shelter said the cat doesn't even like dogs. But she jumped into mommy-mode and has been taking care of the little puppies.
Six critically endangered sea turtles were released back into the waters off Massachusetts this past Wednesday, after being saved and rehabbed by a team at the New England Aquarium. They included one loggerhead, one green, and four Kemp's ridley sea turtles. All three are endangered species.

A woman in Rhode Island jumped into a river to save a rabbit during a Fourth of July celebration, and footage of it is making the rounds on TikTok. She got a big cheer from the crowd, and then a boat picked her up. She had a hard time climbing in but refused to abandon the bunny.

Another new study found that being grateful can help you live longer. It tracked almost 50,000 senior women, and found the ones who scored highest in gratitude tests had a 9% lower risk of dying from any cause.

Syracuse University is working with a charity called Guiding Eyes for the Blind to let students train seeing-eye dogs. Two students are currently training a one-year-old black lab, and a four-month-old yellow lab.
They're allowed to live with them in student housing. And they'll be able to attend college basketball games to help them get used to large crowds.

A 78-year-old man in Massachusetts named Tony Palladino is trying to track down the woman who saved his life at a Rolling Stones concert a few weeks ago.
She saw him collapse at the start of their show on May 30th, and climbed over several rows of seats to give him CPR. Fittingly, the song "Start Me Up" was playing when it happened.
He ended up having a double bypass, and he's doing great now. He doesn't know the woman's name, but wants to thank her and give her a "very big hug."

A 22-year-old woman from Utah is officially the fastest mermaid in the world. She recently competed in something called the Merlympics in Switzerland that are held every two years.
She placed 15th overall, but came in first in the 50-meter mermaid swim, setting a new world record at just over 38 seconds. All events are done while wearing a full mermaid tail.

A 24-year-old guy in Florida named Cade Wessel married his high school sweetheart, six years after predicting it would happen in his yearbook. They've known each other since sixth grade but only started dating senior year.
The quote he chose to run under his senior picture said, "Twenty bucks I marry Sarah Dill." He flashed a $20 bill as they walked down the aisle this spring.

Most students at Johns Hopkins' medical school won't have to worry about tuition thanks to a $1 BILLION donation from Mike Bloomberg's charity. Only students with families who make more than $300,000 a year will have to pay.

A bunch of garden gnomes went missing last month from a guy's yard in the Canadian city of Kelowna. (kell-OH-nuh) But they weren't stolen. A secretive group that calls itself the "Gnome Restoration Society" fixed them up and returned them all.

Carey Knox works as an "intervention specialist" at an elementary school in Fresno, California. He teaches life skills and helps kids work through any issues they're having. But now, he's also a barber. He went to school for it during the pandemic, and recently noticed a student hadn't had a trim in a while. So he got permission from parents and his principal to start cutting kids' hair at lunch for free. He says it's been a boost for their self-esteem, and it gives him a chance to check in and build relationships.

A teenager in New Hampshire saved the day when a runaway boat started spinning in circles last week. 17-year-old Brady Procon hopped on the back of a jet ski and jumped onto the moving boat to stop it. He said he didn't think about the risks, he just went for it. Adding, "It was fun, I'd do it again."

A 75-year-old woman in Pennsylvania named Donna Osborne was supposed to fly to Florida for a vacation. But her flight got delayed multiple times while she was at the airport. So she decided to skip the trip and went home.
And it's a good thing she did, because she ended up buying a lottery ticket and won $5 MILLION. Now she's planning a much bigger vacation to Alaska. She also recently beat cancer, so things are really looking up for her.

A five-year-old girl from England recently lost her favorite stuffed animal on a trip to Disney World and had to go home without it. But Disney employees got in touch two weeks later to let her parents know someone found it. It arrived in the mail a few days later.
