We're just a few days away from the Egyptian Theatre's free screening of German family film ROCCA CHANGES THE WORLD, part of the annual German Currents series!

Check out this inspiring statement made by the film's director, Katja Benrath.

"'Rocca' takes us back to the feeling of great children stories... They didn’t highlight the difference between people, but were brimming full of phantasy, ideas, the vision of justice and carried the conviction that children can change things in a big way for the greater good – in an unbridled, wild and wonderful way. What is needed is curiosity and courage. Both of these traits are found in Rocca, the strong and unconventional protagonist. Having been raised in a camp for astronauts, she moves to Hamburg and turns the world there upside down with her very own worldview. The solution is often closer and less complicated than adults make it out to be. And thus she shows everybody how easy life can be, when we stand up for each other and work together to get things done. And it’s lots of fun, too. It’s not a new idea to teach children to be nice to each other, but Rocca does it in a different way: she doesn’t dictate the ways in which we should act, but her questions will stay in your mind. And questions change the world. Just like Rocca."

Join us at the Egyptian Theatre on Oct. 13 for a matinee screening of German family film ROCCA CHANGES THE WORLD!

This is a great opportunity to introduce your children to international cinema. And did we mention it's FREE?

This crowd-pleaser from director Katja Benrath follows an 11-year-old protagonist whose unshakeable optimism and nonconformist spirit make good on the film’s title. Rocca (Luna Maxeiner, adorable in her first film role) is practically an orphan for much of the year while her astronaut father is away on an orbiting space station. Her parentless lifestyle is hardly an obstacle, however, as she navigates school and bullies with ease and has a positive effect on every person (and squirrel) that crosses her path. Featuring Fahri Yardim as a tender homeless man named Caspar, the film took home the Outstanding Children Award from the German Film Awards and is guaranteed fun for the whole family.

This screening is free with RSVP to:

This Saturday at the Aero, introduce your kiddos to Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the rest of the Peanuts!

See A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN at the Aero Theatre. Celebrating its 50th anniversary!

The Peanuts gang makes its big-screen debut in this gentle comedy about success, failure and resilience. After a Little League baseball loss, Charlie Brown fears he’ll never win at anything - until Linus encourages him to enter the school spelling bee, putting him on the path to the national championship in New York City. The creative team of Bill Melendez and Lee Mendelson gives this animated hit a similar feel to their classic TV specials (though a late-1960s visual style crops up occasionally), and jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi earned an Oscar nomination for the score.

⚾️ Save the date for our baseball double feature! 7/7 at the Aero Theatre, see THE SANDLOT and A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN back to back!

35 mm! Archival Print!
THE SANDLOT
1993, 20th Century Fox, 101 min, USA, Dir: David Mickey Evans
Like THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and A CHRISTMAS STORY, this is a great film, largely ignored upon release, that found life on television and DVD. Here’s your chance to see it on the big screen the way it was meant to be seen. David Mickey Evans (RADIO FLYER) directs his first feature film and knocks it out of the park. It’s sandlot baseball set in the summer of 1962, with Babe Ruth-autographed baseballs, best buddies and giant demon dogs named the Beast that live beyond the rickety home run fence. Geeky kid Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) moves to the San Fernando Valley with his parents and is unable to make friends until sandlot baseball hero Benny Rodriguez adds him to the team. Made up of all the magic little moments of childhood, when scary things really were over the fence and crazy drawn-in-the-dirt battle plans actually worked. Patrick Renna ("Ham") stands out in one of the best kid casts since THE BAD NEWS BEARS. "You're killing me, Smalls!" has become a catch phrase to many since. Also stars James Earl Jones.

35 mm!
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
1992, Sony Repertory, 128 min, USA, Dir: Penny Marshall
“There’s no crying in baseball!” Professional sports were pitched a curveball by WWII, when many players were pulled from the field for military duty; the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was created to fill the void. Penny Marshall’s affectionate look back at the game and the women of the Rockford Peaches stars Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, Lori Petty and Madonna, with Tom Hanks as the team’s initially skeptical manager. Named to the United States National Film Registry in 2012. “Though big of budget, A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN is one of the year’s most cheerful, most relaxed, most easily enjoyable comedies. It’s a serious film that’s lighter than air, a very funny movie that manages to score a few points for feminism in passing.” - Vincent Canby, New York Times

Tomorrow at 2pm, THE FLINTSTONES- lovingly brings live action scope to the original 60s cartoon's style & visual in jokes. The cartoon often had take offs on real celebrities & singers (remember Ann Margrock singing? Stoney Curtis?). In this film the "BC-52s" perform at "Cavern On The Green", as the Flintstones have a fancy night out. It's totally in keeping with the original cartoon since music & song were regular features. Did you know that Hoagy Carmichael, James Darrin, The Beau Brummels had singing appearances in animated form? Also songs by the stone age family themselves- Rockenschpeel jingle, Bedrock Twitch (which also appears in the film), Softsoap jingle, The Wayouts, Listen to the Rocking Bird, & the Car Hop Jingle just to name a few. So bring the family out and sing along!

THE FLINTSTONES is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Join us on June 2 at the Aero Theatre for a 35mm screening of this comedy, plus a Q&A with its director!

Fred Flintstone (John Goodman) is in the hot seat after being framed for embezzlement by his conniving boss, but wife Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins) and neighbors Barney (Rick Moranis) and Betty Rubble (Rosie O'Donnell) come to the rescue in this live-action adaptation that became an international box-office hit. Director Brian Levant and executive producers Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg bring Hanna-Barbera’s prehistoric cartoon world of Bedrock vividly to life with a cast of comedic legends and outstanding sets, costume and production design. Kyle MacLachlan and Halle Berry co-star as scheming villains, and Elizabeth Taylor’s cameo would prove to be her final big-screen appearance. Colorful dinosaur effects by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop round out this family-friendly gem.
