🌸 SPRING DOG CARE TIPS
🐾 1. Watch for Seasonal Allergies
• Dogs can suffer from pollen, grass, and mold allergies.
• Symptoms: itchy skin, sneezing, red eyes, licking paws, ear infections.
• What to do: Wipe paws after walks, bathe regularly with mild shampoo, and ask your vet about dog-safe antihistamines.
🐞 2. Step Up Flea & Tick Protection
• Warmer temps mean fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes are back.
• Use monthly preventatives (chewables, collars, or topical treatments).
• Check for pests daily—especially around ears, neck, armpits, and between toes.
🌷 3. Avoid Toxic Spring Plants
• Keep dogs away from daffodils, tulips, lilies, and azaleas—all toxic if ingested.
• Supervise dogs during walks in blooming gardens or parks.
🐶 4. Mind the Lawn Treatments
• Fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides can irritate paws or make dogs sick.
• Keep pets off treated grass for at least 24–72 hours, or use pet-safe alternatives.
🌤️ 5. Adjust Walk Schedules
• Spring sun can warm pavement quickly—check it with your hand!
• Walk early or late to avoid heat stress and reduce exposure to allergens.
🌼 6. Shedding? Help Them Out
• Many dogs “blow their coat” in spring.
• Brush often with the right tool for your dog’s coat type to manage shedding and reduce hair around the home.
🐕🦺 7. Update Tags and Microchips
• More dogs escape during spring because windows and doors are open more often.
• Make sure your dog’s collar tag and microchip info are up to date!
🚿 8. Bath Time = Allergy Help
• Bathing once or twice a month helps remove allergens from fur and skin.
• Use hypoallergenic or oatmeal-based shampoo for itchy pups.
🍃 9. Keep Fresh Water Everywhere
• Dogs can get dehydrated quickly, especially after springtime zoomies.
• Keep clean water available indoors, outside, and during walks.
